Centennial Park trail to close at Highway 11/17 underpass

The recreational trail connecting Centennial Park to Trowbridge Falls, running under Highway 11/17 on the west side of the Current River, at the Constable John S. Kusznier Memorial Bridge, will be closed on Monday, Oct. 28 to allow for completion of trail paving work.

A granular trail on the east side of the river remains open as an alternate route.

Please respect “trail closed” signage and barriers for safety. The trail is expected to be reopened by Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Section of Harbour Expressway to close for resurfacing

A section of the Harbour Expressway between Carrick Street and Fort William Road will be closed to through traffic starting on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for resurfacing work.

Access to businesses on 16th Avenue will be available, and Memorial Avenue will remain open for the duration of the work. Motorists travelling on Memorial should expect traffic delays in the area.

Fall street sweeping now underway

In preparation for winter, crews have begun the City of Thunder Bay’s fall street sweeping program. The program focuses on removing leaves and debris from the roadway to prevent blockage of storm sewer drains.

Sweeping operations started today, October 16 and typically run until the middle of November.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to use extra caution around street sweeping operations.

Four-way stop added at Court Street and Pearl Street inersection

A four-way stop has been introduced at the intersection of Court Street and Pearl Street. The intersection was previously a two-way stop for travellers on Pearl Street only.

An assessment by the City’s Engineering Division found a four-way stop would be more efficient for changing traffic patterns in the neighbourhood and provides better routing options for Transit operations.

Court Street & Park Avenue intersection to close for traffic signal installation

The intersection of Court Street and Park Avenue will be closed starting on Tuesday, October 15 to allow for the installation of new traffic signals.

As this work proceeds, roadways directly surrounding the intersection will be open to local traffic only. This includes Park Avenue between Cumberland Street and Algoma Street, and Court Street between Pearl Street and Red River Road.

Pedestrian routes at the intersection and access to area businesses will remain available.
