City’s Spring Street Sweeping Program Begins April 28

City of Thunder Bay crews will be out on the roads to begin the spring street sweeping program, starting on Monday, April 28. Beginning Tuesday, April 22, a section of Red River Road, between St. Paul Street and Court Street, will close to complete the final phase of the Reimagining the North Core Streetscapes project. Carrick Street and Hewitson Street reopen after flooding

Carrick Street from 11th Avenue to Hewitson Street, and Hewitson Street from Russell Street to Carrick Street, will reopen late this afternoon. The streets had been closed since Feb. 26 to address frozen culverts causing flooding. 

Motorists are asked to drive with caution in the area as workers reopen the roads.

McKellar Bridge to close overnight for construction work

The City of Thunder Bay is advising residents that the McKellar Bridge will be closed overnight on Thursday, December 19, from 8 pm - 4 am. This closure is necessary in order to move forward with the construction process.

During this time, the bridge will not be accessible to vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists. Residents are urged to plan ahead to avoid being stuck and not being able to travel to and from the island.

Temporary road closure on Summit Avenue and John Street

Summit Avenue at John Street will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, Dec. 18, and Thursday, Dec. 19, to complete important sewer lining work.

The north end of Summit Avenue will remain open to local traffic only. Drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes and drive with caution.
