Work to begin at Memorial Avenue and Harbour Expressway

Beginning Tuesday May 21, travelers will experience some delays and closures as work proceeds at the Memorial Avenue and Harbour Expressway intersection.
Partial lane closures will be in place at the intersection for several weeks. The work is scheduled for completion in late June, dependent on weather and other construction factors.

Work to close James Street Bridge to traffic

The James Street Bridge will be temporarily closed to traffic on Tuesday, May 14 due to watermain repairs being completed in the area. This work is being done in conjunction with CN Rail.
The bridge will be closed to north and south-bound traffic starting at 7 a.m. The duration of the closure is estimated to be 24 hours.
During this time, there will be no through traffic on the bridge and motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and expect traffic delays in the area.

Bike lanes are officially open in Thunder Bay, with the completion of street sweeping along the City’s bike lane network.
On-street parking restrictions affecting designated bike lanes will now be enforced. The City reminds drivers not to obstruct bike lanes with their vehicles, to help keep our roadways safe for all travelers.

Transit routes impacted by reconstruction of north core streets

Several Thunder Bay Transit bus routes will temporarily take detours to accommodate work to rebuild roads and sewers in the downtown north core.
Starting Monday, May 6, routes 1, 2, 3M, 11, and 13 will detour because of construction closing the Red River Road and Cumberland Street intersection.
The City will provide an update when the intersection is ready to reopen and buses can resume their previous routes. The intersection is expected to open later this summer.

Work on the North Core Streetscapes renewal will continue this summer on Court Street, with work shifting to Red River Road.
The streetscape work started in 2023, and this spring, crews have started to install granite planters and concrete pavers on Court Street as the ground has thawed enough to resume work.
