City Road Crews Cleaning Up and Preparing for Next Snowfall

The City’s Roads Section is working hard to manage winter control conditions. All resources are currently cleaning up from the winter event on Monday and will be preparing for the upcoming forecasted snowfall.

Residents are asked to help us work efficiently:

  • Be careful! Stay back when following a plow or sander. Give these large pieces of equipment

extra room to maneuver. Do not pass. Turning a plow in an intersection often means the driver must back up while making the turn.

Public Invited to Education Sessions on Roundabouts

The City of Thunder Bay is hosting two Public Education Sessions regarding roundabouts in Thunder Bay. The Session will outline how to use a roundabout, the benefits of roundabouts and give citizens an opportunity to ask questions, share their views and provide comments.

A roundabout is a circular intersection designed to maximize safety, minimize delay and decrease fuel consumption. There are no traffic lights or stop signs at a roundabout.

Calendar Parking Restrictions Now in Effect

Due to weather conditions, city-wide calendar parking restrictions have come into effect today.

“The implementation of calendar parking restrictions for this winter is based on the recent snowfall,” said Jonathan Paske, Supervisor – Parking Authority. “Motorists are asked to obey posted calendar parking signs, and allow our crews to remove snow from City roadways more efficiently.”

A new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Victoria Avenue East and Ford Street South is being proposed for Council’s approval in the 2019 Capital Budget. A roundabout is a circular intersection where drivers travel around a centre island.

Road Work on Red River Road May Cause Delays

The City of Thunder Bay’s Sewer & Water North Section will be completing water valve maintenance on Red River Road, between Junot Avenue and the Thunder Bay Expressway. Lane closures will be in effect and traffic speeds will be reduced. Motorists can expect delays on Red River Road.

Motorist are asked to avoid the intersection if possible while City crews work. Signage will be in place to guide traffic safely away from the work area.
