Busy Roadwork Season Continues

The City of Thunder Bay is investing $30 million in 2019 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work and streetlight renewal.

Roadwork can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers, but the inconvenience ultimately results in improved infrastructure. All residents are reminded to reduce their speed, be alert, watch for workers and drive with extra care in construction zones.

Simpson Street at Bethune Street Now Reopen Following Work

The intersection of Simpson Street at Bethune Street, which was closed to through traffic due to a water main break, has now been reopened. 

Traffic flow has returned to normal in the affected area.

Simpson Street at Bethune Street Closed for Water Main Work

The intersection of Simpson Street at Bethune Street is closed to through traffic due to a water main break now being assessed by City crews. Simpson Street is closed to traffic at Cummings Street and Cameron Street, and Bethune Street is also closed at Hardisty Street.

As repair work continues, motorists are advised to expect slowdowns and to be diverted around the affected area.

Section of 20th Side Road to Close for Rail Crossing Rehabilitation

20th Side Road, from Arthur Street to Rosslyn Road, will be closed to through traffic on Wednesday, June 26, to allow for rehabilitation work on the CP rail crossing.  The closure is expected to be complete by the end of the day.

The construction schedule is subject to change, as various factors – such as weather – can have an impact on project timelines.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, and those travelling in the area are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted...

Balmoral Avenue Ramp Leading to Harbour Expressway Closed

The Balmoral Avenue ramp leading to the Harbour Expressway is closed for storm sewer repairs. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of next week. 

Vehicles heading south on Balmoral Avenue will not be able to use the right-hand turn lane leading to the off-ramp to travel west on the Harbour Expressway. Drivers will have to make a right-hand turn at the lights instead.
