James Street Storm Sewer Work Postponed Until Next Week

James Street North, between Parkway Drive and Victoria Avenue will now be closed for storm sewer work starting on Monday, Sept. 9, instead of the original scheduled date of Sept. 3. Construction is expected to last eight weeks with completion in early November. The work start date was postponed due to unexpected delays and inclement weather this week. 

Sidewalks will remain open during construction to permit pedestrian access to the area and provisions for accessing the school bus loading zone...

Section of James Street to Close for Storm Sewer Work

Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 3, James Street North, between Parkway Drive and Victoria Avenue will be closed for storm sewer work.

Motorists travelling south can follow posted signage to Parkway Drive to Edward Street to Victoria Avenue. Motorists travelling north can follow signage and take Victoria Avenue to Edward Street to Churchill Drive.

Construction is expected to take approximately eight weeks up to the end of October.

Provisions for accessing the school bus loading zone will be made.

Section of Dawson Road to Undergo Road Construction

Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 3, Dawson Road, between Fassina Street and Strand Avenue, will undergo road construction. Work will include asphalt resurfacing and repairs to the curb and gutter, and catch basins.

Lane closures will occur during the work and traffic may be delayed during busy times.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to take alternate routes if possible, use extra caution, and obey all posted signage when travelling near the construction area.

Victoria Avenue Between Edward and Lillie Streets to be Resurfaced

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, August 14, Victoria Avenue, between Edward Street and Lillie Street, will be resurfaced. Work will include removing the existing asphalt surface and re-paving with two new lifts of asphalt. As part of this work, a new multi-use trail will be constructed along Ford Street, between Rankin Street and Walnut Street, and a new pedestrian crossover installed at the Victoria Ave / Ford Street intersection.  In addition, the work will also include the removal of the traffic...

Road Work Season Continues in Thunder Bay

The City of Thunder Bay is investing $30 million in 2019 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work, and streetlight renewal.
