Celebrating Freshwater Leadership with Family Fun

March 21, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay celebrated Canada Water Week with a free, educational event at Prince Arthur's Landing on Sunday afternoon.

Hosted by EarthCare Thunder Bay in collaboration with EcoSuperior and other community partners, the family-focused event took place in the Baggage Building Arts Centre. The day's excitement featured educational activities and hands-on displays centered on water and its importance to our community.

Waste Collection Changes for Easter

March 18, 2016 - The upcoming Easter holiday will result in changes to waste collection city-wide.

Garbage and recycling collection moves back one day during the week of March 21 for all residents. There is no collection on Good Friday.

Residents are asked to check their waste collection schedule card, or visit thunderbay.ca/recycling for more information.

City Roads Crews Continue to Combat Heavy Snowfall

March 17, 2016 - With yesterday's heavy snowfall continuing overnight, City roads crews will continue to plow, sand, and salt roads and sidewalks for the rest of the week.

As many as nine sanders and five graders were deployed across the City prior to 6 pm yesterday evening, when roads crews were required to cease operations to rest for a mandatory eight hour period before the 2 am plow. Winter Operations in Full Force Clearing Slippery Roads

March 16, 2016 - City roads crews are out in full force with the heavy snowfall that began around 12 pm today. City sanders began operations at approximately 12:30 pm, to combat slippery road conditions; however the intensity of the snow created slush and packed very quickly causing some slippery conditions.

The high speed roads (above 60 km/h) like Arthur Street, the Harbour Expressway, Oliver Road, Dawson Road and Dog Lake Road to name a few, were plowed first.

Don't Be Reckless: Dangerous Thin Ice Conditions

March 15, 2016 - Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is asking all residents to stay off any of the frozen bodies of water in the area. The recent increase in temperature is causing ice conditions to deteriorate and areas of open water are becoming visible.
