November 1, 2016 -Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week is happening Nov. 1-7.  Ontario Law requires carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to be installed outside of all sleeping areas in homes and other residential buildings that have any of the following:

  • a fuel fired appliance
  • a fireplace, or
  • an attached garage.

No disruption to customer water service is anticipated.

Update on CUPE Negotiations

November 1, 2016 - "The Union is consulting with its membership and it is going to hold a vote on the City's most recently tabled set of proposals.  There will be no strike until that vote has been held and the results of that vote are known," said Norm Gale, City Manager.
 
"The Union has informed us that there is a new strike deadline of 12:01 am on Monday, November 7, 2016."
 
The City Manager will not be making any further comments or do interviews until the vote is held.

Curbside Leaf & Yard Waste Collection Begins Next Week

October 27, 2016 - Curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place from Nov. 1-10 on regular recycling days.

Leaf and yard waste should be placed at the curb with recyclables on the regular recycling day, as indicated on the waste collection calendar with a leaf symbol.  Residents are reminded to check their waste collection calendars carefully, as collection will be one day earlier the second week of November, due to Remembrance Day.

Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged Plants Canada Celebration Garden

October 27 - Thunder Bay is the fortunate recipient of two Canada 150 Celebration Gardens distributed to 150 applicants across Canada by the Canadian Garden Council.

Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged, along with Thunder Bay's Soroptimist International Friendship Gardens, were chosen out of 400 applications to receive 1,000 red and white tulips symbolically honoring Canada's approaching milestone birthday.
