Service Information in the Event of a CUPE Strike

October 27, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay's largest union, CUPE Local 87, will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 am on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

"We continue to negotiate and we will do everything reasonable to reach a settlement and to avoid the disruption and inconvenience a strike will cause," said City Manager Norm Gale. "Essential services will continue to be provided."

Carbon Monoxide Alarm Saves Family

October 25, 2016 - A carbon monoxide alarm has been credited for alerting a Dryden family of a deadly CO leak in their home yesterday. Four people, including three children, required treatment in hospital after a CO alarm alerted the children's mother that there was a problem in the residence.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds residents it is the law to install carbon monoxide alarms outside all sleeping areas if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.

Balmoral Street Southbound Lanes Closed Monday and Tuesday

October 21, 2016 - The southbound lanes of Balmoral Street, between Harbour Expressway and Norah Crescent, will be closed Monday, Oct. 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 25 to allow for paving. For these two days, there will be no access to Balmoral Street via William Street, Hewitson Street or Sibley Avenue.

Southbound through traffic will be detoured along the Harbour Expressway to Golf Links Road, and then down William Street. Detours will be posted to route motorists around the area of construction.

Section of John Street To Close on Monday and Tuesday

October 21, 2016 - The reconnection of a watermain will necessitate the closure of John Street from Valley Street to Mercier Street on Monday, Oct. 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 25.

This portion of John Street will be limited to local traffic only during the work, and detours will be posted.

Drivers travelling in the area are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted signage.

Canada 150 Celebration Garden Planted at Soroptimist International Friendship Gardens

October 18, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is the fortunate recipient of two of 150 "Canada 150 Celebration Gardens" being distributed across Canada by the Canadian Garden Council to commemorate Canada's sesquicentennial in 2017.
