Jane's Walk Festival Celebrates Safe, Inclusive Neighbourhoods

May 3, 2016 - This coming weekend, Thunder Bay residents will take to the streets to participate in Thunder Bay's 6th Annual Annual Jane's Walk Festival. Local volunteers will be leading nine free neighbourhood walks to inspire citizens to get to know their City and each other. Walks are held across the world during this weekend in celebration of Jane Jacobs's birthday, May 4.

Flag Recognizes Traditional Lands of Fort William First Nation

May 2, 2016 - The Fort William First Nation flag was raised at City Hall today in a ceremony recognizing that Thunder Bay resides in the Robinson Superior Treaty and has been built on the traditional lands of the Ojibwa people of Fort William First Nation.
City Council approved the addition of the flag on April 25 to fly permanently alongside the Canadian, Ontario and Thunder Bay flags in front of City Hall. The Robinson-Superior Treaty was one of the first treaties signed in the region.

Kashechewan Evacuees Settling In Thunder Bay

May 2, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay welcomed just over 300 evacuees on Sunday, as planned, from flood-threatened Kashechewan First Nation locate near James Bay.
"The final plane arrived Sunday evening and our guests have settled in to their accommodations," said Dave Paxton, Deputy Fire Chief. "There are a large number of children among the residents, so the City's Recreation & Culture has been engaged to plan activities with the community."

Second Installment of 2016 Tax Bill Due May 4

April 29, 2016 - The second installment of the 2016 tax bill is due on Wednesday, May 4. The interim tax billing is based on 50 per cent of your 2015 tax rate and 2015 assessment.
Taxpayers who have not received their bill are advised to visit the Corporate Services & Long Term Care Department, Revenue Division located on the main floor of City Hall, or call 625-2255 to request a copy.

Thunder Bay Preparing to Host 300 Kashechewan Evacuees

April 29, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is preparing to receive 300 people as early as Sunday from Kashechewan First Nation, which has declared a state of emergency due to potential for flooding.
