The City of Thunder Bay is investing $18 million in 2020, on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work, and streetlight renewal.
Road work can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers. All residents are reminded to reduce their speed, be alert, watch for workers and drive with extra care in construction zones.

River Street, from Madeline Street to High Street will undergo pavement resurfacing starting this week.
Work will be completed in stages. Stage 1 will allow only westbound traffic on River Street. Eastbound traffic will be detoured down Rockwood Avenue to Dawson Street, to High Street. Under the next stage, River Street will be fully closed to allow for final grading and paving operations.
Access to the businesses in the area will be provided on Madeline Street.

The intersection at the Harbour Expressway and Balmoral Street will be fully closed starting on Wednesday, May 27, at 6 am, until end of day Thursday, May 28. A posted detour will be available at Golf Links Road, Central Avenue and Carrick Street.
The closure is a necessary part of the road reconstruction and storm sewer installation on Balmoral Street, between Hewitson Street and Alloy Drive.

A section of Balmoral Street, between Hewitson Street and Alloy Drive, will undergo road reconstruction and storm sewer installation starting on Tuesday, May 19.
A full closure of Balmoral Street, between Hewitson Street and the Harbour Expressway, will be conducted at the start of the construction and will last approximately 10 days. Montreal Street, from Mountdale Avenue to Neebing Avenue, will be closed to all through traffic on Thursday, May 14, from 8 am – 4 pm to allow for rehabilitation work on the CP rail crossing. Local traffic will be permitted to allow for access to businesses.
