55 Plus Community Volunteers

Volunteers host recreation programs for people 55 plus throughout Thunder Bay, including: Fun Active Babes (FABS), Retirement Explorers, Wit Knits, Superior Hearing Hangar Walks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aqua Energizers on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the summer months, summer outdoor walking programs, summer mixed slo pitch league, and much more. To apply as a 55 Plus Community Volunteer, please print the 55 Plus Community Volunteer Cover Letter and Volunteer Application Form.

You may drop-off or mail-in the application form to:

Superior Hearing Walking Program - FREE

Location: LU Hangar, 955 Oliver Road

Date: Tuesdays, January 14 - March 31, 2020

Time: 2 - 3 pm

Parking passes needed for LU parking lot ($1.25/hour)

Please bring indoor shoes for walking on the track. Please use the main entrance, side track entrance may only be used by those individuals with mobility devices. 

Wit Knits - FREE

Location: Mary J L Black Library, 901 Edward Street South

Date: Every Thursday (January 9 - April 30, 2020)

Time: 1:30 - 3:00 pm

Drop in, no instruction. Knit while you socialize.


Retirement Explorer's - FREE

Location: Mary J L Black Library, 901 Edward Street South

Date: Every Friday (January 10 - May 29, 2020)

Time: 1:00 - 2:30 pm

Join others who are retired or thinking of retiring, to discuss things to do and places to see in Thunder Bay. Make connections with new people and explore the benefits retirement has to offer.


Mixed Bocce Ball

Location: DaVinci Centre

Date: Thursdays, January 16 - April 30, 2020

Time: 1:00 - 2:30 pm

Cost: $2.00 drop in fee for anyone 55 Plus.

Bring your indoor shoes and a water bottle.

The DaVinci Centre will be open for coffee, tea and juice but no alcoholic beverages may be consumed while playing with the 55 Plus Bocce group.

Snowshoe Adventure

Location: Kamview Nordic Centre

Date: Mondays, January 20 - March 2, 2020

Time: 3 pm

Date: Fridays, January 24 - March 6, 2020

Time: 11 am

Fee: Trail Pass is $7 plus tax, snowshoe rentals $7 plus tax

Please arrive half an hour prior to register and be fitted for equipment.
