The City of Thunder Bay and its partners work together to offer programs and services to help make getting around actively safe, easy, and fun. There are programs that encourage you to enjoy the world; programs that focus on education; and programs that influence the way we think about travel.

WOW Thunder Bay

Walk or Wheel Thunder Bay (WOW TBay) is program that encourages families to choose active transportation for the trip to and from school. Active transportation refers to any form of human-powered (non-motorized) travel such as walking, cycling, using a wheelchair, scooter, or skateboard. It is part of a province-wide Ontario Active School Travel project. Active transportation increases physical activity, improves physical, mental and emotional health while also benefiting our environment.

WOW TBay is run by EcoSuperior Environmental Programs and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. It is a partnership that includes staff from Lakehead Public SchoolsThunder Bay Catholic District School Board, Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay, the City of Thunder Bay, and Thunder Bay Police Service.

Safe Cycling Thunder Bay

Safe Cycling is one of the most successful cycling training programs in Canada. We offer courses for people of all ages and abilities. From free group rides to school bike rodeos to commuter skills to advanced instructor training, our 44 cycling instructors are here to help.

Commuter Challenge

The Commuter Challenge is a national friendly competition between workplaces, cities, and provinces. Workplaces and individuals across the country are being challenged to use alternatives to driving alone for at least one day of the Commuter Challenge week (June 3-9, 2018). If you bike, walk, take Transit, carpool, telecommute, canoe, you are getting it done! Participating is free and there are great prizes to be won!

Check out EcoSuperior's website for more information. We are looking for both individuals and employers to get involved! There is also a national Commuter Challenge page where you will register and track your progress. It's an awesome site that tells you how many calories you burnt, distance travelled, and green house gases (GHG) saved.

Thunder Bay also has a Commuter Challenge Facebook page!
