Changes to Pedestrian Crossover Laws

January 5, 2016 - Amendments to the Highway Traffic Act affecting pedestrian crossovers came into effect on January 1 as part of Bill 31 - Making Ontario's Roads Safer.
Under the new regulations, drivers, including cyclists, must remain stopped at a pedestrian crossover or school crossing until the person crossing the street or the school crossing guard is completely off the roadway.

Holiday Tree Drop-off Sites Open Boxing Day

December 22, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay will once again recycle natural Christmas trees this holiday season from December 26 to January 10.
Trees will be ground into wood chips and added to the compost pile at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility. Compost is given away each spring to beautify residents' lawns and flower gardens.

Christmas Gift Wrap Not Recyclable

December 18, 2015 - Thunder Bay residents are reminded that the brightly coloured or foil wrapping paper often used during the Christmas season cannot be recycled because of its high ink content.
"Recool will not collect blue bags that contain wrapping paper left at the curb, nor will they collect wrapping paper brought to recycling depots," said Jason Sherband, Manager of the City's Solid Waste & Recycling Services Section. "Wrapping paper must be put out with your regular garbage."

December 18, 2015 - After 15 years as the City Treasurer and General Manager with the City of Thunder Bay, Carol Pollard announced today she is retiring at the end of February 2016.
