All City of Thunder Bay records are identified under records retention schedules. Retention schedules give instructions for the length of time records are kept, their eventual disposition, and their access and security requirements.
The Reading a Retention Schedule document can help you read and understand retention schedules.
Records schedules are set out under the authority of the City of Thunder Bay Records Retention By-law in accordance with Sections 254 and 255 of the Municipal Act, 2001 and Chapter 193 of the Thunder Bay Municipal Code. The current Records Authority By-Law is 20-2022, passed 14 March 2022.
Note to City staff: More recent retention schedules may be available through your departmental records coordinator. Records can be transferred to the Archives under new schedules that have not been included in a By-law, but these new schedules cannot be used to authorize disposition.
If you require a PDF in an accessible format, contact our Municipal Accessibility Specialist.
