At the Complex, we hire part-time staff on an ongoing basis, as required for the following positions:

Aquatics:

Lifeguards and Instructors

Under the General Supervision of the Supervisor of Aquatics, safeguards the facility to ensure the public have a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience. Provide safe and enjoyable instruction to program participants according to the standards of the Lifesaving Society.

Qualifications: Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructors and Lifesaving Instructors and Standard First Aid CPR-C.

Pool Control / Slide Attendant

Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor and the technical direction and guidance of the Head Lifeguard, assists the public to ensure they have a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience.

Qualifications: Current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Award and Standard First Aid with CPR-C. Lifesaving Society Assistant Instructors is an asset.

Aquatic Hiring Swim Assessment

The Canada Games Complex has put in place an in-water evaluation of all potential aquatic employees. Aquatic hiring swim assessments are conducted to ensure potential applicants have retained the knowledge and skills learned in their lifeguarding and instructor courses. The assessment will include a stroke evaluation, timed swim, brick carry and retrieval of a brick from 4.93 meters.

Fitness:

Fitness Instructors

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor - Adult Fitness, Wellness & Inclusion Services, is responsible for conducting a fitness class and within the range established by the Supervisor, uses whatever facilities and equipment are necessary to fulfill this function.

Qualifications: Instructor must have taken a recognized fitness leadership program and/or certification. Preference will be given to candidates with associated experience in group teaching.

Fitness Attendants

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor - Adult Fitness, Wellness & Inclusion Services, is responsible for the proper guidance and direction of the weight room and multi-training areas.

Qualifications: Must possess an academic and practical knowledge of weight training. Preferred candidate will have gone through a recognized course on weight training.

Chronic Disease Management Program Instructors

Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor Adult Fitness, Wellness & Inclusion Services, is responsible for supervising the Chronic Disease Management classes within the guidelines established by the Program Supervisor.

Qualifications: Must possess a Bachelors degree in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education or physiotherapy. A College diploma specializing in exercise leadership with special groups will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with an internship or volunteer experience in chronic disease management programs.

Inclusion Facilitators

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor Adult Fitness, Wellness & Inclusion Services, provides appropriate assistance to support the staff and participants of Recreation and Culture Division programs in the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the programs, including assisting in fostering an atmosphere of independence, confidence, and mutual support for participation in the programs.

Qualifications: Must possess secondary school graduation, together with post secondary courses in kinesiology, recreation, recreation therapy, developmental services worker, or a related field which relates to instruction of persons with disabilities. Must also demonstrate involvement in recreation and/or related volunteer experience and have two years’ experience working with adults with disabilities in an integrated setting.

Services:

Services Attendants

Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor - Customer Services & Programs, promotes and sells services and merchandise, provides information for telephone and customer inquiries, performs clerical duties.

Qualifications: Grade 11. An ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with the public. Experience in handling money and computer skills are assets. Some post secondary education and/or experience in business, recreation, sports or fitness is an asset.

Facility Attendants

Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor - Customer Service & Programs, performs services and public relations duties.

Qualifications: Grade 9. An ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with the public. Some post-secondary education and/or experience in business, recreation, sports, fitness of public relations would be an asset.

Children & Youth:

Babysitter

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor Children, Youth, & Events, the babysitter is responsible for providing a safe, fun environment for children to play in.

Qualifications: Minimum age of 16. Must have experience working with children.

Children & Youth Program Leader

Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor and the technical direction and guidance of the Program Coordinator/Head Playleader, provides leadership and activities for ages 5-13 in various Children and Youth programs.  These programs are accessible and dynamic in nature, designed to meet the needs of children with differing ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Qualifications: Minimum 16 years of age. Demonstrated experience in community recreation and/or children’s programs and/or related volunteer experience. Demonstrated involvement in coaching, teaching and working with children in a recreation/sport setting.

Children & Youth Program Specialist

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor and the technical direction and guidance of the Program Coordinators, is responsible for the development and implementation of specific programs, and Specialist areas for children aged 5-13. Programs are accessible and dynamic in nature, designed to meet the needs of differing ages, and sites/neighbourhoods. These programs will include registered programs and drop-in programs. Managing assigned administrative duties. 

Qualifications: Secondary school diploma. Two years’ recent experience in leadership programming in the area of specialization (e.g. special events, arts, sports & games, outdoor recreation, nature studies, waterfront and crafts). Demonstrated experience in community recreation and/or children’s programs and/or related volunteer experience. Demonstrated involvement in coaching, teaching and working with children in a recreation/sport setting.

Children & Youth Program Coordinator

Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor, coordinates and administers recreation programs designed for children aged 5-13, and are  designed to meet the needs of differing interests, ages and neighborhoods. 

Qualifications: Secondary school diploma. Two years’ recent experience in recreation programming specifically for ages 5-13 and administration. Experience in supervision of staff. Volunteer Management experience. Proven leadership experience. Experience in developing training. Experience assessing community needs and interests for specific program development.
