Habitat ReStore to Collect Used Items at Landfill May 29 - June 3

May 26, 2017 - Restore Week at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road will take place from Monday, May 29, to Saturday, June 3. During this special week, residents visiting the landfill can donate gently used building materials, appliances, cabinets, furniture, tools, plumbing and electrical materials to the Habitat for Humanity tent between 10 am - 4 pm. The tent will be located after the weigh scales, near the public drop-off bins.

Strategy results in Favourable Variance in 2016

May 24, 2017 - A deficit management strategy introduced in summer 2016 allowed the City of Thunder Bay to end the year with a favourable variance, or surplus, of $2.7 million.

37th Annual Kite Festival Celebrates Flight at Chippewa Park

May 19, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay is proud to announce the 37th Annual Kite Festival presented by Ontario Power Generation. The City's annual celebration of flight is back at Chippewa Park on Sunday, June 4, from 12 - 4 pm. Families are invited to fly their own kites, watch the pro fliers take over the sky with giant kites, and learn about different forms of flight. Event admission is free. Rides and bouncy castles will also be available for a fee, and food concessions will be onsite.

Bad Weather Conditions Delay Port Arthur Stadium Upgrades

May 19, 2017 - Freezing rain, freeze-thaw cycles and major rainfalls over the fall and winter season have caused delays to the completion of field improvements at Port Arthur Stadium in preparation for the XXVIII World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 from Sept. 1 - 10, 2017.

The delay will affect the Thunder Bay Border Cats home games that are scheduled to be played at the stadium for the start of the season. Games played in Thunder Bay up to approximately mid-June...

Free Compost Available to Residents Beginning May 19

May 18, 2017 - Compost will be available to all residents at no charge at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility on Friday, May 19, while quantities last and weather permitting.

Access to the compost pick-up area is located east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Road. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am - 5 pm, and Saturday from 9 am - 4 pm.
