Community Wellness Programs are an extension of the Fitness and Wellness Programs offered at the Canada Games Complex. You can find your favourite classes and instructors closer to home. We run out of various schools and community centres in your neighbourhood. 

While the Canada Games Complex is remains closed for renovations, all fitness classes will be held at the 55+ Centre (unless otherwise noted) and are open to everyone to register.  This temporary location will be for classes August, September and early October.  Stay up to date about all of our fall classes and class times by following the City of Thunder Bay Community Wellness Facebook page.

To register for Community Wellness Programs please go to cityofthunderbay.perfectmind.com, or call 684-3311. Classes can be paid for by session. Alternatively, you can purchase a Fitness Punch Card and drop in to a variety of classes. 9 punches (classes) are $65.00 + HST.  Up until the end of this fall session, once you use all 9, receive a free, 10th workout!  We will also honour 55+ punch passes.

Make sure to call the Active Living Coordinator at 684-3324 prior to the first class to see about space available, possible class cancellations, or for any other information regarding Community Wellness Programs.

The below classes are open for registration on August 14th, for the September - October, 2023. Late registrations welcomed, although we do need a minimum enrolment in order to run the classes, so register early to secure your spot. (Registration will be capped at 15)

Bender Ball Fusion - Monday 9-10am

Join Candace for this great class that is easy to follow and focuses on all the components of fitness! With the use of small bender balls and weights you will target obliques, lower abs, glues and thighs. Experience the Bender ball for yourself and see why it’s truly ‘the little ball that does it all!'

Zumba Toning - Monday 7:15-8:15pm

Join Share for a fun, high energy class that will get your heart rate up and boost your cardiovascular endurance.  There will be a mix of low intensity and high intensity moves for an interval–style, calorie burning workout.  The addition of small weights provides added calorie burning, strength training and extra emphasis on toning and keeping your muscles engaged longer.

Focus on abdominal and trunk strength and stabilization exercises with some added resistance and aerobic work.

Senior Fitness - Monday/Wednesday 6:30-7:30pm

Are you 55 or over?

Join Evelyn and have fun moving through a variety of exercises designed to increase strength, balance & range of motion. With the use of resistance bands, weights and cardio, you will enjoy being challenged while working at your own pace.

Strong Seniors - Tuesday/Thursday 9:30-10:30am 

Join Karen for cardio, strength, balance and core for the strong seniors that have remained active all their lives and are looking to exercise in a group format.

Zumba - Tuesday 7:30-8:30pm

Combines low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. A total workout, combining cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, and energy boost.

Kettlebell - Wednesday 5-6pm

Join Lynda to strengthen and tone your whole body! You will swing, press and squat your way to a stronger body while improving flexibility and cardiovascular endurance in this kettlebell class.  A focus on proper form and technique will be a big part of using the kettlebell as a powerful tool for improving your fitness and overall body composition.

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) - Wednesday 6:15-7:15pm

A challenging, full-body strength and conditioning class for every level.  By using timed intervals and a combination of intense cardiovascular and strength training exercises with active recovery you will definitely get the most bang for your buck!
