The City has a longstanding history of urban forest development and protection for the community.

Thunder Bay’s rich history of urban forestry, combined with the dedication of City forestry staff and community members, has laid the foundation for developing a comprehensive, efficient, and effective urban forestry program.

Read the City's Urban Forestry Management Plan.

The Urban Forestry Management Plan was approved in 2011, however, as a result of the arrival of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) beetle in the city, additional adjustments and actions have been taken beyond the scope of this plan to meet the current needs of the City’s urban forest.

We also invite you to read our guiding document for Parks Standards and Specifications for Tree Planting.
