The City of Thunder Bay welcomes today’s Provincial announcement that permits the Thunder Bay District to proceed to stage three reopening beginning Friday, July 17. The City has been working on its reopening plans, putting in place all necessary arrangements.

The James Street road closure previously scheduled for Saturday, July 11 will now take place on Monday, July 13.

One block of James Street from Riverview Drive to Victoria Avenue will be closed in both directions on Monday for paving.

Starting today, City splash pads located at County Park, North End Recreation Centre, and Franklin Park will be open to the public. Staff will be on-site to coordinate and monitor the splash pad operations.

PRO Kids’ Training with a Pro is back for its fifth year, but this time, it will be delivered in a virtual format. The public is invited to exercise and train along with their professional hockey idols every Wednesday from July 22 to August 12, at 12 pm.

As the City’s COVID-19 recovery continues to evolve, Thunder Bay Transit is continuing to adjust service levels to best meet fluctuating ridership levels and customer demands. Changes will be coming into effect on July 19 and 20 for routes, fares and boarding.

The public is invited to watch a virtual presentation by Stantec Architecture on the proposed Chapples multi-use indoor turf facility and provide comment. The presentation and comment form are available until July 19, at www.thunderbay.ca/GetInvolved.

Road work to 25^th Side Road between Veradale Street and Rosslyn Road, previously scheduled for today, has been postponed.

Communications will go out when a new work date is determined.

The public is invited to view Grant Thornton’s Phase Two Report of the City’s Programs and Services and share comments from now until July 31.

The comments will be provided to Members of Council for consideration when they discuss the recommendations at a Special Committee of the Whole in September.

As part of ongoing construction work, the parking area in front of the old CN station at Prince Arthur’s Landing will close on July 1, to remain closed for the balance of the summer. The closure will allow for the completion of concrete curbs, asphalt paving, lighting, planting beds and stormwater management features.
