  • Lyon Boulevard West to Close to Traffic on Weekends

    To encourage residents to be active outside while maintaining physical distance, Lyon Boulevard West will be closed to vehicular traffic every weekend until the end of September. Users of the multi-use trail on the west side of Boulevard Lake will be able to spread out and use the adjacent roadway.

    Each year World Hepatitis Day takes place on July 28, bringing the world together under a single theme to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis and to influence real change. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all World Hepatitis Day promotion and events were virtual this year.

    Superior North EMS Base under Construction in Kakabeka Falls

    The Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge has awarded the tender to construct a new 2,240-square-foot ambulance base on Marian Street in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario to Aurora Construction Ltd. From the new location, Superior North Emergency Medical Services, a division of the City of Thunder Bay’s Development & Emergency Services Department, will provide land ambulance service to nearby municipalities and unincorporated areas.

    One Lane of John Street Road Closed at Mercier Street July 28

    From 6 am to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 28, one lane of John Street Road will be closed to eastbound traffic at Mercier Street for the installation of new sewer and water infrastructure. A detour will direct all eastbound traffic to Hutton Park Drive.

    2020 Road Work Season Continues

    The City of Thunder Bay is investing $18 million in 2020 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, water main repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work, and streetlight renewal. Road work can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers.

    Mandatory Mask Directive Taking Effect

    The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation and discussed the importance of residents following the full range of measures to protect against the spread of the virus.

    Starting Friday 12:01 am, masks or face coverings are required in all enclosed public spaces, including on Thunder Bay Transit.

  • One Lane of Cumberland Street Bridge to Accommodate Pedestrians

    Starting Friday, July 24, the outside lane of Cumberland Street North, southbound over the Current River Bridge, will be closed to vehicle traffic to accommodate pedestrians walking the loop around Boulevard Lake.

    This safety measure is undertaken due to increased foot traffic over the bridge during the current closure of the Boulevard Lake Dam Walkway.

  • Preparations Begin for New Adventure Playground at Centennial Park

    Following public engagement in the summer and fall of 2019 on the design of a renewed play area at Centennial Park, the City’s Parks & Open Spaces Section will begin removing the older equipment starting this week.

    “We are excited to begin the process of renewing and improving the Play Area,” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager of the City’s Parks & Open Spaces Section.

  • Pioneer Ridge Reintroducing Indoor Visits

    As of 1 pm today, indoor visits at Pioneer Ridge are being reintroduced, and outdoor visits are continuing in the designated outdoor visiting area.

    Prior to each visit, the visitor must pass an active screening questionnaire, either using an online pre-screening tool, or be screened by home staff onsite (*reminder to not come if experiencing any health symptoms).

  • SNEMS Paramedics Participate in Memorial Bike Ride

    In past summers, paramedics from Ontario would get together to take part in the Memorial Bike Ride to Parliament Hill to honour the memory of Canada’s fallen paramedics, combat medics, and search and rescue technicians, and to shed light on the issues of PTSD and suicide. But this year plans had to adjust to the times, so now the Memorial Bell is travelling across Ontario, stopping for a few days with each paramedic service to honour the paramedics who have fallen in the Line of Duty.
