City and Enbridge Gas Notify Public of Road Closure for Natural Gas Pipeline MaintenanceTo support the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas in the community, the Algoma Street South and Waverley Street intersection will be closed for three weeks starting Tuesday, May 19, 2026, as Enbridge Gas performs scheduled work on a portion of its natural gas distribution system.
All northbound and southbound lanes of Algoma Street South, between Park Avenue in the south and Red River Road in the north will be closed, as well as all eastbound and westbound lanes of Waverley Street between.
Watermain Work to Impact Memorial Avenue TrafficDrivers should expect some traffic delays on Memorial Avenue in the Harbour Expressway area on Friday, May 15, as City crews perform watermain repair work.
One of Memorial’s southbound lanes will be closed between the Harbour Expressway and Dunlop Street starting at 12am Friday morning.
Section of Junot Avenue to Close for Repaving
Free compost available to City residents beginning FridayFree compost will be available at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility starting Friday, May 15, for all City residents - while quantities last, weather permitting.
Access to the compost pick-up area is located east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Rd.
Gravel Road Maintenance Underway Across Thunder Bay
Lanes to be Reduced on Arthur Street for RepavingLane reductions will be in place on Arthur Street West between Highway 61 and Parkdale Boulevard starting on Monday, May 11, as the City of Thunder Bay carries out resurfacing work.
At least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during the work, which is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions.

This feedback will inform the City’s long-term plan to build a continuous waterfront trail running approximately 13.
City of Thunder Bay Marks National Day of Awareness for MMIWG2S+The City of Thunder Bay joins communities across Canada in recognizing the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+), also known as Red Dress Day.
This day honours the lives of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who have been lost to violence and raises awareness of the ongoing and disproportionate impacts of this crisis on Indigenous communities.
