Free Compost Available to Residents Beginning May 13
May 11, 2016 - Compost will be available to all residents at no charge at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility on Friday, May 13 while quantities last, weather permitting.
Access to the compost pick-up area is located east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Road.
Kashechewan Evacuees Preparing to Return HomeMay 10, 2016 - Residents of Kashechewan First Nation that were evacuated to Thunder Bay on May 1, due to a threat of flooding in their home community are expected to return home as early as Thursday. The First Nation has rescinded the evacuation order indicating it is now safe for residents to return to the community.
Pumping Station Tests May Cause Discoloured WaterMay 10, 2016 - On Wednesday, May 11 Sewer and Water North will conduct tests at the Chamberlain Pumping Station as part of an ongoing upgrade. Beginning at 9am, several distribution valves will be closed, temporarily isolating the Chamberlain Pumping Station from the water distribution system.
City Dedicates Harry Kirk Archives & Records CentreMay 9, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay today celebrated the dedication of the Harry Kirk Archives & Records Centre on Vickers St in recognition of the long-time civic administrator.
Harry Kirk, was a long time employee (39 years) of the City of Thunder Bay serving as City Clerk and Deputy City Clerk for a total of 29 years.
Celebrating 25 Grants Distributed to New BusinessesMay 6, 2016 - The Thunder Bay and District Entrepreneur Centre marks the two-year anniversary of the official launch of the Ontario government's Starter Company program, which provides training, mentoring, and a potential grant of up to $5,000 for those with a winning business plan. 25 grants have been awarded to young entrepreneurs, who have used the money to purchase inventory, secure a store space, advertise, and help with other start-up costs.
Water Street Improvements Begin MondayMay 6, 2016 - Construction work on Water Street is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 9, from Villa Street south to Cumberland, and is expected to last up to four days.
Improvements include milling and paving as well as manhole, valve and catch basin leveling.
Owner Ticketed For Smoke and CO Alarm Violations (1)May 5, 2016 - The owner of a Blucher Avenue rental property has been ticketed for failing to maintain a smoke alarm and also for failing to install a carbon monoxide alarm where required. Each ticket carries a fine of $360.
Jane's Walk Festival Celebrates Safe, Inclusive NeighbourhoodsMay 3, 2016 - This coming weekend, Thunder Bay residents will take to the streets to participate in Thunder Bay's 6th Annual Annual Jane's Walk Festival. Local volunteers will be leading nine free neighbourhood walks to inspire citizens to get to know their City and each other.
City Kicks Off National Youth Week and Youth Arts WeekMay 3, 2016 -Mayor Keith Hobbs, along with local youth from Sir Winston Churchill school, officially proclaimed May 1-7 as Youth Week and raised the official flag today at City Hall to kick-off the celebrations.
National Youth Week celebrates the positive contributions that youth make to their communities, their achievements, and their volunteerism.
