Thunder Bay Hosting Evacuees from Kashechewan First Nation
Today, the City of Thunder Bay will begin to receive evacuees from Kashechewan. Due to flooding in the First Nation community, the Province issued a request to Thunder Bay to be a host community.
Open House to show future of Victoria and Syndicate AvenuesAfter months of preliminary design work and public consultation, the preferred design for Victoria and Syndicate Avenues will be on display at a public open house.
On May 3, from 3 to 7 pm, consultants with KGS Group, Scatliff+Miller+Murray and City of Thunder Bay representatives will be at Centre Court in Victoriaville to show what the neighbourhood could look like in just a couple of years.
City bike lanes opening delayedWith the late snowfall this year and the possibility of more to come, the City of Thunder Bay has delayed the official opening of bike lanes. Bike lanes typically open on May 1 after street sweeping operations have been completed.
Boat slips now available at Thunder Bay MarinaThe Thunder Bay Marina opens for the season on May 15, and slips are now available to reserve.
A range of slip sizes are available for vessels of various sizes.
City Revises Organizational StructureOn April 24, City Council approved a revised organizational structure for the City of Thunder Bay. The new structure and corresponding employee transfers will take effect on July 4.
PRO Kids Hosts 25th Anniversary Partner Recognition BrunchA Partner Recognition Brunch was hosted by PRO Kids on Sunday, April 23, to recognize and honour the recreational activity partners who have helped make a difference in the lives of local children and youth.
The event, which took place at the Best Western Plus Nor’Wester Hotel and Conference Centre, marked a major milestone for PRO Kids as the organization celebrates 25 years of providing Positive Recreation Opportunities for kids in need.
Candidate financials posted onlineCandidate financial statements for all council and school board candidates from the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election have been officially posted online today as required by the Municipal Elections Act.
Returning Officer Krista Power said that after the end of the campaign period, candidates and registered third party advertisers must file a financial statement and auditor’s report (if required) disclosing all contributions and expenses for their campaigns.
Drive with caution on Loch Lomond Road: Local floodingThe City of Thunder Bay is advising residents and visitors to the Loch Lomond Road area to use caution as localized flooding is causing poor conditions on sections of the roadway.
City crews are working to pump excess water away from the area.
City Welcomes Expert Panel ReportYesterday the Expert Panel to the Thunder Bay Police Services Board delivered the “Building Trust Through Bold Action Roadmap for Real Change: Final Report of the Independent Expert Panel to the Thunder Bay Police Services Board April 2023”.
City of Thunder Bay Mayor Ken Boshcoff welcomes the report, noting that the advice of external experts can guide meaningful transformation.
