  • Kashechewan First Nation Evacuees Take-in Thunder Bay

    April 27, 2017 - On April 17, Thunder Bay began receiving Kashechewan First Nation evacuees due to the spring flood. Thunder Bay is currently hosting 65 guests from Kashechewan, and due to weather conditions, no further arrivals are anticipated in the coming days.

  • Update on Status of City Services Due to Freezing Rain

    7 AM EST - April 27, 2017 - Significant ice build-up overnight due to a long-lasting period of freezing rain has temporarily suspended some City services and closed some City facilities.
     
    "Our crews have been working very hard throughout the night to manage icy conditions on city roads and sidewalks," said Norm Gale, City Manager.

  • Freezing Rain Storm Update: City Services Affected by Weather

    April 26, 2017 - Due to continued freezing rain and ice pellets associated with a late season ice storm, City services and facilities have been affected today, and may continue through Thursday afternoon. 

    Thunder Bay Police Service is strongly recommending that citizens limit travel due to the severe ice storm that is making roadways and walkways hazardous.

  • Thunder Bay Chosen in Ontario Basic Income Pilot Project

    April 24, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay has been chosen to take part in a provincial pilot project to assess whether a basic income can better support vulnerable workers, improve health and education outcomes for people on low incomes, and help ensure that everyone shares in Ontario's economic growth.

    Thunder Bay is among three regions starting the pilot in late spring, including Hamilton, Brantford and Brant County.

  • Flag Raising Celebrates City's Involvement in Canada Games

    April 11, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay received the official Canada Games flag today on its cross-country tour to the 2017 Canada Summer Games. Mayor Keith Hobbs, along with local athletes, raised the flag in McGillivray Square during a special ceremony at City Hall to celebrate Thunder Bay's past and present involvement in the Canada Games.

    The Roundtable Against Racism brought together about 40 community-based organizations that are united in action against racism and work to promote equity, diversity, and respect in the community.
