Designated Truck Route Takes Effect in Early October
Starting in early October 2025, the City of Thunder Bay’s new Designated Truck Route (DTR) will come into effect as part of a plan to enhance public safety.
Under the new DTR, transport trucks will be redirected off Dawson Road and Arthur Street, and instead required to use Highway 11/17, which is specifically built to higher design standards and maintenance operations.

Short Term Accommodation Operators Required to Register PropertiesThe City of Thunder Bay is reminding operators of short-term rental properties (accommodations rented for less than 30 consecutive days at a time), that they are required to register their rental properties with the City under the Municipal Accommodation Tax By-law. The requirement to register includes individuals who occasionally make their personal residences available for rent via online platforms like Airbnb, VRBO etc.
