Waste Collection Date Changes for Week of Canada Day 2026Next week’s Canada Day holiday will result in waste collection moving one day earlier in Areas 1 and 2.
If your usual collection day is Tuesday (Area 1 - blue calendar), next week’s waste collection moves to Monday, June 29.
Centennial Botanical Conservatory Hours Temporarily ChangingOpening hours at the Centennial Botanical Conservatory will be temporarily changing during the early part of July.
For the two weeks from June 29 through July 10, the Conservatory will not offer its usual extended evening hours on Thursdays and Fridays.
City Launches New Exhibit to Share Powerful Stories of Sixties Scoop SurvivorsIn recognition of National Indigenous History Month and Indigenous Survivors Day, The City of Thunder Bay’s Indigenous Relations team launched a new public exhibit today by the Legacy of Hope Foundation, Bi-Giwen: Coming Home – Truth Telling from the Sixties Scoop.
Hosted in partnership with the Legacy of Hope Foundation and Department of Canadian Heritage, the exhibit brings forward the lived experiences of survivors of the Sixties Scoop, a period during which thousands of Indigenous children.
Harbour Expressway Turn Lane Temporarily ClosingMotorists are advised that the eastbound left turn lane at the Harbour Expressway & Golf Links Road intersection, will be closed to traffic on Thursday, June 25 for curb and gutter installation.
The eastbound left turn lane is expected to reopen by 5pm, and drivers are asked to please use alternative routes during the closure.
Thunder Bay Residents are Reminded to Obtain a Fire Burning PermitThunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds residents that all outdoor burning permits inclusive of Open (brush) and Recreational (fire pit) in the City of Thunder Bay must be approved as per the Ontario Fire Code.
Unapproved burning due to not having a permit or breaking the terms and conditions of the fire permit will result in a Cease to Burn Order and a minimum fine of $583.
Pacific Avenue Overpass to Close for Construction SeasonThe Pacific Avenue Overpass will be closed for the duration of the 2026 construction season starting on Monday, June 29 to allow for major rehabilitation work on this important transportation corridor.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured via the Main Street Bridge and Island Drive.
Section of Oliver Road to Close for Storm Sewer WorkOliver Road will be closed to through traffic between Dalton Avenue and Enniskillen Avenue beginning on Monday, June 22, to allow for storm sewer replacement work.
During the closure, detour signage will be in place, with traffic routed around the construction zone via Balmoral Street, John Street, and Ray Boulevard.
