Beginning Monday, April 6, Thunder Bay Transit will operate on an enhanced Sunday service schedule that will maintain early morning start times on all routes six days per week, Monday – Saturday. LIFT+ specialized service is not affected by these changes.

The Recreation & Culture’s spring program sessions scheduled to start March 30 - April 30 are cancelled, and credits are being applied to all program registrants.

Staff will be available by phone on Wednesday, April 8 to process credit card refunds if preferred instead of a credit.

Effective at midnight tonight, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has issued a fire ban on all outdoor burning within the City of Thunder Bay.  The ban on outdoor burning is consistent with the recent Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests Restricted Fire Zone declaration.

City Council has approved deferral of the due date for the interim tax levy installment to assist those financially impacted by COVID-19.

This two-month grace period is among a number of financial relief measures approved by City Council on Monday night.

In response to the Provincial Order prohibiting organized gatherings of more than five people, tonight’s Open Session of Committee of the Whole will be conducted largely by electronic participation.

Only the Chairs of Committee of the Whole and Council (Councillor Mark Bentz and Mayor Bill Mauro) will attend in person together with City Clerk Krista Power and City Manager Norm Gale and one other person for technical support.

Transit Seeking Approval to Move to Holiday Service
Thunder Bay Transit is seeking approval from Council’s Committee of the Whole on Monday, to begin operating on a reduced Sunday/Holiday service schedule seven days a week beginning on April 1.

In alignment with direction from the Province under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and to protect the safety of all staff, the City has taken the steps necessary to cease non-essential services until further notice.

“Decisions we have made and continue to make as a Corporation have always been informed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and professional medical opinion,” said Mayor Bill Mauro.

As the City continues to respond to COVID-19, the Waterfront Transit Terminal building is now closed to the public, but riders are still able to make connections and transfer buses at the terminal platform.

The Parking Authority announced today that, effective immediately, Calendar Parking regulations are waived.

Based on the warm weather predicted in the short-range forecast the decision was made to end Calendar Parking restrictions as of today.

Today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that non-essential businesses will be directed to close across the province effective as of Tuesday, March 24 and last for 14 days. The City also announces the closure of City Hall, effective immediately.
