  • Second Pedestrian Crossover Activated

    September 5, 2017 - Thunder Bay's second Pedestrian Crossover has been activated today at the intersection of Walsh Street and Selkirk Street. 

    Motorists and cyclists using Walsh Street must now stop when a pedestrian is waiting to cross and the crossover lights start flashing.

  • Community Gathers to Recognize Overdose in Thunder Bay

    August 31, 2017 - Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, a ceremony was held to raise awareness of overdose in Thunder Bay and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. The ceremony at the entrance to Kam River Park saw participants wear silver and purple ribbons of support and tie ribbons onto a memorial tree in remembrance.

  • City Signs Letter of Intent With Matawa First Nations

    August 29, 2017 - Officials from the City of Thunder Bay and Matawa First Nations Management announced today City Council's authorization of a Letter of Intent to move forward with granting Grandview Lodge, a former long-term care facility, to Matawa First Nations Management following a deputation made last night. 

    The City's surplus facility will be used to establish a Matawa Student Education and Care and Centre.

  • Changes in School Crossing Guard Schedules

    August 29, 2017 - Effective this September at the start of the 2017/2018 school year, changes will be implemented to the school crossing guard schedules, including the removal of lunch time services for many schools.

    Since schools have two nutrition breaks instead of the single traditional lunch hour, crossing guards are no longer needed at that time.

    August 29, 2017 - Provincial Arbitrator James Hayes issued an Interest Arbitration Award for the City of Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 193 (TBPFFA).

    The binding Award results in wage increases of 2.

  • City Council Considers Letter of Intent with Matawa

    August 22, 2017 - City Council will be considering authorizing a Letter of Intent with Matawa First Nations Management at Committee of the Whole on August 28.

    The report recommends that the City grant the former Grandview Lodge building and property to Matawa for the purpose of redeveloping it as a Student Education and Care Centre for high school students from Matawa First Nations.

    August 22, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce the lineup of talented local musicians featured at Live on the Waterfront on August 23.  

    The evening will start off with the Roy Coran Big Band and the Thunder Bay Community Band.

  • Precautions for Outdoor Activities due to Partial Eclipse of the Sun Afternoon of Monday, Aug. 21

    August 20, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay is implementing precautionary measures to prevent harm to residents and/or visitors that may be caused by Monday's partial eclipse of the sun.  Looking directly at an eclipse of the sun, even if partial, can result in permanent eye damage due to the infrared and ultraviolet radiation emitted from the sun.
