The City of Thunder Bay is inviting everyone to help shape the next Community Safety & Well-Being (CSWB) Plan. The CSWB Plan is a community-led strategy required by the Province and built by and for the people of Thunder Bay.

The City of Thunder Bay is entering the next major phase of the Reimagine Victoriaville project, with the demolition of Victoriaville Centre scheduled to begin Monday, August 11, 2025. Crews will be working extended hours from 7 am to 7 pm, in accordance with City noise by-laws.

Following City Council’s decision on July 21 to confirm 879 Alloy Place (Hillyard Site) as the location for the Temporary Shelter Village, City staff hosted an information session this morning for nearby business owners and operators.

Held at Moose Hall in partnership with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, about 55 people attended to ask questions, and learn more about the project and opportunities for ongoing engagement as the project moves forward.

The City of Thunder Bay is reminding operators of short-term rental accommodations, including those listed on platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, and other similar platforms, that they are legally required to collect and remit the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT). 

The MAT applies to stays of less than 30 days in hotels, motels, and short-term rentals across the city.

The City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront performance series, presented by Ontario Power Generation, continues this Wednesday, August 6 from 6 pm – 9 pm at Marina Park with a special Maamawe edition.

 Maamawe – meaning “all together” – celebrates Indigenous voices, artistry, and connection through an evening of powerful performances by three incredible artists: 

• 6:00 pm – Sara Kae: an Ojibwe and Cree artist from Lake Helen First Nation whose powerful voice and storytelling have taken her from.

The City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront performance series, presented by Ontario Power Generation, continues this Wednesday, July 30, from 6 pm – 9 pm, with a soulful Blues Night at Marina Park.

This week’s lineup is all about homegrown talent, showcasing some of Thunder Bay’s finest blues musicians: 

• 6:00 pm – Dr Buck and the Bluesbangers: a seasoned three-piece blues band from Thunder Bay, known for their soulful harmonies, dynamic stage presence, and a shared passion for rockin’ blues.

Shortly before midnight, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to reports of a fire at an encampment near Simpson St. The callers reported that tents were ablaze and that propane cylinders were exploding at the scene.

On Tuesday, July 29 the City will conduct storm sewer repairs on Waterloo Street South including the replacement of a storm sewer catchbasin and the associated sewer lead crossing the roadway.

To facilitate this work, beginning July 29 at 8:00 am, Waterloo Street South will be closed to both northbound and southbound traffic between Arthur Street East and Begin Street East.
