Take Part in the Home Energy Improvement Loan StudyEarthCare Thunder Bay invites the public to get involved and have their say on the Home Energy Improvement Loan Study. The City of Thunder Bay is exploring the feasibility of a home energy improvement program to provide access to financing for homeowners interested in improving the energy efficiency of their homes.
City participates in joint initiative towards transit electrificationThe City of Thunder Bay, along with twelve other municipalities in Ontario, is participating in a study that will develop information resources and implement a roadmap for the transition to electric vehicles.
The study, coordinated by the Metrolinx Transit Procurement Initiative, will be carried out by the engineering firm HDR.
City Seeks Talent, Vendors and Community Groups for EventsWith COVID restrictions now lifted, the City will be moving forward with a modified season of in-person programming and is inviting talent, food vendors, event vendors, artist/artisans and community groups to apply to participate in the City’s annual events series.
The events season includes 15 event days, including two event series, ‘Live on the Waterfront’ and ‘Movie Nights in the Park’.
Expanded Eye on the Street program helps promote public safetyIn June 2021, City Council approved the expansion of the Eye on the Street program, including installing new cameras in strategic locations, upgrading the hardware and network, and increasing the number and locations of cameras.
Originally launched in 2005, the program is led by the City of Thunder Bay and Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS), in partnership with tbaytel, and with financial support from the Ministry of the Solicitor General’s Guns and Gangs Program.
Water Service Work Closes Westbound Lanes on Oliver RoadA water service repair is taking place today on Oliver Road, between Balmoral Street and Frankwood Avenue. Those travelling west toward Balmoral Street, will be rerouted up Frankwood Avenue, as westbound lanes are closed.
City Reminds People to be Careful if Discarded Needles are FoundThe arrival of spring and the melting snow will uncover large amounts of litter on city streets, and the Thunder Bay Drug Strategy reminds people to be careful if they find a discarded needle.
If a needle is found, people are asked to contact Superior Points to deal with the discarded needles, or take some simple steps to safely dispose of the needles themselves.
City to Offer Mobile Payment App for Parking SpacesDrivers who park their vehicle at a metered space in Thunder Bay will now be able to use an app to pay for parking at any of the more than 1,000 municipal parking spots across the city.
The City of Thunder Bay will use the Passport Parking Canada app to enable anyone to pay for their parking on a smartphone.
Share Your Views on Improvements at Mountdale Boat LaunchThe City of Thunder Bay’s Parks & Open Spaces Section and the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) are looking for the public’s feedback on proposed improvements at the Mountdale/Neste Boat Launch and surrounding park area.
The Mountdale Boat launch is located on Mountdale Avenue, off Montreal Street and provides access into the Kaministiquia River and then to Lake Superior.
Returning Officer launches 2022 Municipal Election seasonThe next municipal election will be held on Monday, October 24, and the Returning Officer for the City of Thunder Bay officially launched election season today.
“As the Returning Officer for the Municipal Election, I’m pleased to officially announce election season has begun here in Thunder Bay,” said City Clerk Krista Power, Returning Officer.
