The City of Thunder Bay is investing $30 million in 2019 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work and streetlight renewal.

Roadwork can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers, but the inconvenience ultimately results in improved infrastructure.

The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to host My Son the Hurricane at Live on the Waterfront, presented by Ontario Power Generation, on July 24, 2019.

My Son the Hurricane will be hitting the stage at 8 pm with their unique style called brasshop, a combination of multi-horns, multi-vocal and multi-drums.

The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce Canadian singer songwriter Basia Bulat will be bringing her immense talent to Live on the Waterfront, Wednesday, July 17, presented by Ontario Power Generation.

Basia Bulat, a Juno Award and Polaris Prize nominee, has spent the past two years touring all over Canada and Australia.

In the interest of safety, security and the wellbeing for everyone, the City of Thunder Bay has opted to decline hosting any additional wildfire evacuees, including the previously stated 200 additional evacuees that were expected to arrive in the city tomorrow and Wednesday.

“As a result of the influx of forest fire evacuees from Pikangikum, the City is seeing greater demand in support and services, including constraints on emergency services,” said Norm Gale, Emergency Operations Control Group Chair.

The City of Thunder Bay is preparing to receive approximately hundreds more people beyond expressed capacity from Pikangikum First Nation after an evacuation order was called for the community due to the threat of a nearby 404-square kilometre forest fire.

The City publicly communicated its capacity last week at 400 evacuees, but more asks continue to come in, in addition to hundreds of self-evacuees here now that the City is not yet providing support for.
