  • City and Business for the Arts Celebrate Conclusion of artsVest Program

    March 20, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay's Cultural Development & Events section celebrated the successful conclusion of the artsVest program, alongside Business for the Arts, at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium yesterday.

    "The collaboration allowed us to support local organizations to increase their capacity to secure sponsorships through a mixture of mentorship, training and an investment matching program," said Ash Young, Cultural Development & Events Supervisor for the City of Thunder.

  • Share Your Views on Supervised Consumption Services

    March 15, 2018 - To help reduce drug overdoses, improve health and lower the amount of healthcare resources used in Thunder Bay, Elevate NWO in partnership with Joseph Esquega Health Centre and Anishnawbe Mushkiki, and NorWest Community Health Centres in partnership with Dilico Anishinabek Family Care are planning to add small-scale integrated supervised consumption services to their existing services for people who use drugs.

    In February 2017, the Ontario Integrated Supervised Injection Services.

  • City of Thunder Bay's Festivals and Events Services Recognized Provincially

    March 12, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay's Events and Event Services have been recognized as some of the best in Ontario. Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) has presented the City with three awards based on activities undertaken in 2017:

    Municipality of the Year 
    (population 50,000-150,000)
    The Award recognizes municipalities, towns or cities and markets who have worked, through concentrated efforts, to provide an atmosphere beneficial to successful festivals and events.

    "Every time change is an opportunity to educate the community about the importance of changing and testing the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms " said Fire Chief John Hay.

    March 1, 2018 - In response to media reports today of racially motivated incidents of eggs being thrown from vehicles and striking pedestrians, Acting Mayor Paul Pugh made the following comment on behalf of City Council and Administration:

    "We condemn hate motivated crimes and discriminatory attitudes.

    We encourage everyone to report hate crimes and stand up to racism.

    March 1, 2018 - Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and the City's Infrastructure & Operations Department want to remind residents and businesses to do their part this winter and help keep fire hydrants clear and accessible.

    Due to heavy snow accumulating this winter, city crews are working hard to remove snow from around fire hydrants.

  • Property Owner Ticketed For Carbon Monoxide Alarm Violation

    March 1, 2018 - A Ridgeway Street property owner has been ticketed for failing to install a carbon monoxide alarm where required. The ticket carries a fine of $360.
