Road Work Ahead: City Shares Details of September Construction
The City of Thunder Bay is sharing details of construction projects expected to impact vehicle, cycling, and pedestrian travel in September.
The City is investing $55 million in 2025 to fund crucial infrastructure work including road rehabilitation, sidewalk replacement, sewer and watermain repairs and replacements, and bridge and culvert renewal.
Walsh Street Closure Between Waterloo Street and Kingsway Avenue for RehabilitationBeginning Monday, September 8, Walsh Street will be closed to traffic between Waterloo Street and Kingsway Avenue for rehabilitation of the CN Rail Crossing. The work includes installation of new concrete panels and resurfacing the approaches.
Lane Closures Along Main Street and at Fort William Road Intersection for Field WorkBeginning Monday, September 8, periodic lane closures will be in place along Main Street and at the Fort William Road and Main Street Intersection to allow for field work in the area.
The work will be completed during the day and is anticipated to take one to two days to complete.
Closing time for amusement rides, pools, beaches, and splash padsAs summer fades to fall, the City has begun seasonal closures starting with Art Widnall and Heath pools on Aug. 31 followed by Sandy Beach at Chippewa Park and the Main Beach at Boulevard Lake on Sept.
City launches new governance structure of City CouncilThe City is excited to announce a new governance structure for City Council starting this September. The new model will move from the existing Committee of the Whole to Standing Committees.

Drone Light Shows headline Live on the Waterfront: Summer Send-OffThe City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront outdoor concert series, presented by Ontario Power Generation, is set to close out the season in dazzling fashion with the Summer Send-Off on Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28 at Marina Park. Live music starts at 6:30 pm and concludes at 9:30 pm on both nights followed by a spectacular drone light show.
