  • Provincial Funding for Water Innovations in Thunder Bay

    April 15, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay has made improvements to its water and wastewater systems through a Showcasing Water Innovation (SWI) grant from the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.

    The SWI grants were intended for recipients to pioneer cost-effective and innovative approaches to sustainable water management solutions.

  • CEDC Discusses Thunder Bay's Competitiveness in New Report

    April 13, 2016 -The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) held a special presentation today to expand on the City's Competitive Position ranking as it was highlighted in the 2014 edition of the KPMG's Guide to International Business Location Costs: Competitive Alternatives.

    Doug Murray, CEO of the Thunder Bay CEDC, outlined the following business costs in the Report with respect to: facilities, labour, transportation, utilities, and taxes.

  • Dates Revised for Spring Leaf & Yard Waste Curbside Collection

    April 12, 2016 - Leaf & Yard Waste Curbside Collection dates for spring 2016 have been pushed forward several weeks due to continuing cold weather and recent snowfalls.

    Leaf and yard waste collection, previously scheduled for early May, will now take place between May 17 and May 27, on the regular recycling day indicated in residents' 2016 Garbage & Recycling Collection Schedules.

  • New Urban Agriculture Site to Benefit Young Leaders

    April 12, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay, along with Roots to Harvest, unveiled a new program and site plan on Monday evening to transform the former soccer fields adjacent to Volunteer Pool into a productive urban agriculture site, where young adults will gain leadership and employment skills through gardening, bee keeping, and raising rabbits. 

    The site plan was developed by Stuart Oke, Community Grower for Roots to Harvest, in consultation with renowned farmer Chris Blanchard, owner of agricultural.

  • Sections of Cumberland Street to Close for Improvements

    April 8, 2016 - Sections of Cumberland Street will close to northbound traffic starting on Tuesday, April 12 to allow for various improvements including asphalt reconstruction, watermain replacement, boulevard landscaping, and installation of a new storm sewer and street lighting.

    While site preparation work will begin on April 11, traffic access to Cumberland Street will remain unrestricted until the following day, April 12.

  • Share Your Views on Paterson Park Redevelopment

    April 8, 2016 - Paterson Park may look very different in the near future according to concept plans presented to the public at a meeting last night on proposed options for the park's redevelopment.

    Three potential designs were presented, and participants were invited to share their feedback as well as identify their preferred plan.

  • Carbon Monoxide Detector Alerts Paramedics to Toxic Gas

    April 6, 2016 - Superior North Emergency Medical Services (SNEMS) Paramedics responded to a call for service in which the patient was experiencing confusion. On arrival, paramedics were warned of a potential cause of this confusion when the Carbon Monoxide detector attached to their oxygen bag began to alarm.

    April 6, 2016 - To kick-off Civic Pride Month, the City introduced the "˜Don't Be Trashy' campaign today to encourage people to take pride in Thunder Bay and not trash our environment.

    "Litter is a major problem that cripples our City," said Mayor Keith Hobbs.
