Local high school students marked World Water Day with hands-on activities, Elder-led learning, and career development opportunities at Confederation College on Wednesday.

Around 200 students visited the World Water Day exhibition, part of the college’s United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Week.

March 24, 2026 – The City is continuing its analysis of potential designated encampment locations, which includes processing a substantial amount of community input and reviewing the historical context of the sites under consideration. As this work progresses, the complexity of the evaluations has resulted in the need for additional time to complete due diligence, including preliminary environmental assessments, and further studies where needed.

As part of the City of Thunder Bay’s efforts to maintain our roadways during the period of spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur, reduced heavy load restrictions will apply within the City of Thunder Bay limits beginning at 8:00 am on Monday, March 23.

The Reduced Load Restrictions apply to all streets within the City of Thunder Bay limits with some exempted streets.

March 12, 2026 – The City of Thunder Bay is inviting community members to attend an upcoming public drop‑in session to share their feedback and learn more about six potential designated encampment sites.

The session takes place on Wednesday, March 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Intercity Shopping Centre and will feature visual displays explaining key components, with staff present to answer questions.

Due to warm temperatures over the weekend, the City of Thunder Bay’s outdoor skating rinks are temporarily closed.

With colder weather in the forecast, the City’s Parks & Open Spaces Division will work to reopen skating rinks throughout the week as conditions allow.

The City of Thunder Bay is advising the community that construction activity at 879 Alloy Place – the site for the Temporary Village – will resume beginning Monday March 9, 2026, as work continues with site preparation and infrastructure.

Initial activities will focus on site grading and drainage, including excavation and the placement of granular material and geotextiles.
