PRO Kids launched the third annual “Power to Play” fundraising campaign, taking place throughout the month of April. The campaign aims to raise $50,000 to help local children and youth access recreational programs when their families cannot afford the fees.

CityStudio Thunder Bay, a three-year pilot community-campus engagement project that allows for innovative solutions to address municipally identified challenges and opportunities, presented its 2023 achievements to City Council last night. The presentation highlighted significant strides in CityStudio’s mission to foster community collaboration and growth within the City of Thunder Bay, Confederation College, Lakehead University, and NOSM University.

Drivers are being urged to use extra caution on local roads, after Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for the city.

The Thunder Bay area is expected to receive snowfall amounts of 25 to 50 centimetres beginning Monday and continuing through Tuesday night.

Curbside waste collection dates will change next week due to the Good Friday statutory holiday, moving to one day earlier for all residents. There will be no collection on Friday, March 29.

The City is asking residents to provide their feedback in a survey on the possibility of designating encampment locations on City-owned land for people experiencing homelessness who live outside and are unsheltered.

“Although the City is not a housing provider and does not provide direct services to those in encampments, we play a key coordinating role in our community’s response as most encampments are on City-owned lands,” said Cynthia Olsen, Director – Strategy & Engagement.

Exciting transformations are on the horizon for Thunder Bay's public transportation infrastructure, fueled by a combined investment of almost $19.5 million from the federal government, the provincial government, and the City of Thunder Bay.

Based on discussions between Parking Authority and the Roads Division Manager regarding the weather forecast and current road conditions, the decision has been made to waive Calendar Parking restrictions for the remainder of the season, effective immediately.

Parking Authority may waive enforcement of Calendar Parking at any time after March 1, if forecasted weather and road conditions warrant.

Due to warm temperatures causing significant deterioration in ice conditions at the outdoor rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing, the rink has now been closed for the season.

“We had hoped to remain open for March Break, unfortunately, the warm weather has made ice conditions unsafe for skating” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager, Parks & Open Spaces.

The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that the City has reached a Memorandum of Settlement with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966.

The Union voted in favour of ratifying the deal last night.
