    City Announces National Youth Week and Youth Arts Week Virtual Programming

    The City of Thunder Bay is excited to host virtual programming this year in celebration of National Youth Week and Youth Arts Week from May 1 to May 7. The Recreation and Culture Division, along with other community partners, has arranged different activities for youth ages 12–24 to participate virtually throughout the week with a focus on well-being.

    Road Construction to Close Section of James Street South

    Starting on Monday, May 4, construction will begin on James Street South, between Gore Street and Kingston Street. Construction will include repairs to storm sewer and concrete sidewalk.

  • COVID-19: Emergency funding approved for non-profit groups

    City Council voted unanimously to provide COVID-19 Pandemic emergency relief funding to four organizations currently funded through the Community, Youth & Cultural Funding Program.

    A total of $168,300 was approved in Phase I of the Community, Youth & Cultural Funding Program Emergency Fund, which prioritized critical and essential services related to food and shelter.

  • Section of River Street to Close for Sewer and Water Work

    A section of River Street, between Balsam Street and Elm Street, will be closed starting on Wednesday, April 29, to allow for new essential sewer and water infrastructure to be installed. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, May 1, at 8 pm.

  • New Plaque Installed to Commemorate National Day of Mourning

    On the eve of the National Day of Mourning, Mayor Mauro tonight introduced a bronze memorial plaque installed to recognize employees who suffered loss of life, serious injury and illness arising from their duties.

    The plaque is in front of City Hall opposite the flags that are lowered on the annual Day of Mourning.

    Share Your Views on the Program and Service Review (1)

    In March 2019, and before the pandemic City Council approved a review to improve understanding of the programs and services currently provided by the City and provide information that will allow Council and administration to make informed strategic choices regarding those programs and services.

    The objective is to help City Council achieve its goals and determine how the Corporation can improve the services that matter most to Thunder Bay residents, both now and into the future.

    COVID-19: Mayor Mauro Declares Emergency

    Mayor Bill Mauro has declared a state of emergency for the City of Thunder Bay, effective today at 2 pm and until further notice, in response to the threat of COVID-19.

    This aligns with Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s Declaration of Emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and the evolving environment in which the municipality is delivering critical and essential services.

  • TC Energy Donates PPE to Superior North EMS

    On April 21, TC Energy generously donated N95 masks to Superior North EMS to assist paramedics on the frontlines to stay safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.  

    “We have a mandate within our organization to provide financial or other support within all the communities we serve, so it was an easy decision to make this donation of masks when we know they are needed by the paramedics,” said Don Gresch, Regional land Representative for TC Energy.

    After further consideration, the City will open Mountain View and St. Patrick’s Cemeteries to the public, effective immediately.
