  • City advances Temporary Shelter Village with new site recommendation

    Following extensive analysis, engagement, and a commitment to community safety and wellbeing, the City has identified 1111 Fort William Road, a parcel of land owned by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA), as the recommended site for the Temporary Shelter Village Initiative. This recommendation comes after careful consideration of over 50 alternative locations across the city.

  • Temporary Trail Closure Near Boulevard Lake
    March 31, 2025 – Infrastructure Ontario and the City of Thunder Bay’s Parks & Open Spaces Section would like to inform residents that part of the gravel LPH trail on the west side of Boulevard Lake will be temporarily closed from April 2 - 4, 2025, for forest restoration work.
    Trail users are asked to respect posted signs and barriers around the closed section to ensure everyone's safety.

  • City Clarifies James Whalen Salvage Option

    Following discussion at the Committee of the Whole meeting on March 24, 2025 surrounding the future of the James Whalen tug, the City would like to clarify that local company, Harbour Metals, has not made an offer to scrap or salvage the tug.

    The misunderstanding arose from a suggestion made by a member of the public to a Member of Council, naming Harbour Metals as willing to perform the salvage work at no charge.

    Thunder Bay Transit launches Lift Pass

    Today, Thunder Bay Transit officially launched its new electronic fare card, Lift Pass, a new and convenient way of paying for bus fare. Lift Pass allows passengers to load Transit fare products onto a reloadable smart card who can tap their card to ride Thunder Bay Transit and Lift+ Specialized Transit.

  • Reduced Load Restrictions Take Effect in Thunder Bay

    As part of the City of Thunder Bay’s efforts to protect roadways during the spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur, reduced heavy load restrictions will be in effect within city limits starting at 8 am on Monday, March 24, 2025.

    The governance structure of City Council in Thunder Bay could change, with the City looking for input on how Council operates.

    Currently, City Council uses the Committee of the Whole system to receive reports, debate topics and make preliminary decisions on matters that govern Thunder Bay.
