    Campsite Reservations Brisk for Trowbridge Falls and Chippewa Park

    People interested in camping at Trowbridge Falls and Chippewa Park this summer will need to act quickly as reservations for both campgrounds are on the rise. Compared with numbers from 2019, campsite reservations at Chippewa Park nearly doubled, and at Trowbridge Falls, they quadrupled.

  • Death Prompts Warning from Thunder Bay Fire Rescue

    Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is reminding residents of the potential risks of fractal wood burning after they responded to a medical call on the weekend for an electrocution death caused by the process.

    Fractal wood burning, also called Lichtenberg, is an artistic process that burns lightning or tree-like figures into wood using high-electricity voltage generators or similar components.

    Update on City Services Following New Ontario Regulations

    Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement on Friday of an extension to the Stay-at-home order and further province-wide restrictions, some city services will be affected including marinas and some outdoor recreational amenities.

    The declaration of emergency and the Stay-at-home order are orders under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, and have been extended to May 5 at this time.

  • New Provincial Regulations Being Reviewed for City Services Impact

    The Government of Ontario has extended the Stay-at-Home Order and the State of the Emergency to May 5, and announced further province-wide restrictions effective 12:01 am today, Saturday, April 17. The order under the Reopening Ontario Act, which would include the rules for shutdown zones, has been extended to May 20.

    The City is pleased to launch a renewed area of the City of Thunder Bay website focused on Indigenous relations and inclusion to better serve residents and visitors. The web area embodies the City’s vision: Maamawe, All Together, while furthering the goals of the new Indigenous Relations & Inclusion (IRI) Strategy, which was recently approved by City Council on Nov.

    Water Street North Reduced to Two Lanes on Thursday

    As a result of a scheduled hydrant repair, Water Street North between Bay Street and Cumberland Street will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes (one northbound and one southbound), beginning on Thursday, April 15, at 8 am. Slower traffic can be expected during the repair.

    Council Approves Extending Patio Program for 2021

    Many Thunder Bay’s businesses continue to be impacted by the pandemic and it is anticipated that local retailers and restaurants may not be able to operate at full capacity again this spring. To offer assistance, a Report requesting that the 2020 special Patio Program be extended to include the 2021 patio season was presented and approved by City Council last night.

    Curbside waste collection dates, city wide, will change next week due to Good Friday.

    Garbage and recycling collection will move one day earlier next week, starting on March 29, for all residents.

    The City of Thunder Bay announces the return of Quest, the annual tech and gaming event, taking place from April 30 – May 2. The event will be virtual this year, and includes esports tournaments and tech-related educational workshops and programming.
