Have Your Say on the Waterfront Master Plan Update – Pool 6 lands
Residents of Thunder Bay are being asked to provide their feedback and input on the update to the Waterfront Master Plan, specific to the Pool 6 lands.
“The Waterfront Master Plan hasn’t been updated since 2015, and since then several new opportunities have presented themselves”, said Guy Walter, Landscape Architect, City of Thunder Bay.
City unveils new fleet of electric pickup trucksThe City of Thunder Bay is adding electric vehicles to its fleet, with the first zero-emission pickup trucks being unveiled today.
Two Ford Lightning pickups will be added to the light vehicle fleet.
Reduced Load Restrictions Take Effect 2024As part of the City of Thunder Bay’s efforts to maintain our roadways during the period of spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur, reduced heavy load restrictions will apply within the City of Thunder Bay limits beginning at 8:00 am on Monday, March 11.

Council Composition Review Committee hears desire for changeMembers of Thunder Bay’s Council Composition Review Committee heard on Tuesday how survey respondents want to see change to the makeup of City Council.
659 people responded to a survey launched in January that asked the public about their desire to see changes to the makeup of City Council, or changes to wards and ward boundaries.
Culture Vibes Open HouseThe City of Thunder Bay invites residents to come and learn more about what’s in store for arts, culture and heritage as the Recreation and Culture division presents the draft framework for its new Culture Plan. The drop-in style evening event, “Culture Vibes”, features live music and art activities, while also offering the public an opportunity to influence future strategies and cultural development in support of the arts, heritage, and cultural sector.
Outdoor Rinks Closed for the SeasonDue to recent rain and warm temperatures causing significant deterioration in ice conditions at outdoor rinks, all rinks, except for the refrigerated rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing, are now closed for the season.
“The recent warm weather has caused the ice surfaces to soften and given the additional above-zero temperatures forecasted for the foreseeable future, we have made the decision to close the rinks for the season,” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager, Parks & Open Spaces.
Water Main Repair Work May Cause Discoloured WaterThe repair work required to fix a leak on a north-side trunk water main has been completed and the main will be returned to service Thursday morning. No disruptions to the water supply are expected, but residents should be aware that the work may cause discoloured water on the north side of the city.
Apply online for Building Permits in Thunder BayContractors and do-it-yourselfers can now apply and pay for all residential building permits online, making it easier to build and develop in Thunder Bay.
The Property and Permits Portal has expanded to accept all types of residential building permit applications.
City looks for feedback on updated Urban Design GuidelinesAfter a decade of being in effect, the City’s Planning Division will update the Urban Design Guidelines. Changes to the Zoning By-law and evolving best practices mean the current guidelines no longer reflect the best ways to get people to visit, work or live in a particular area.
