  • City Hall Sounds Returns for a Fourth Season

    July 28, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay's Crime Prevention Council announced the fourth annual edition of City Hall Sounds today, which will bring live entertainment, local food trucks, and community partner information booths to the South Core neighbourhood.

  • Sister Cities Delegation to Visit Little Canada

    July 28, 2016 - A four person delegation from Thunder Bay will be returning to Little Canada, Minnesota this weekend for the Annual Canadian Days celebration.

    A Sister City of Thunder Bay since 1977, Little Canada is located north of Minneapolis and has a population of 10,000.

  • Partial Closure of William and Balmoral Intersection Starts Tuesday

    July 25, 2016 - The intersection at William Street and Balmoral Street will be partially closed as of Tuesday, July 26 to facilitate the construction of a new storm sewer. 
     
    The closure affects the west side of Balmoral Street, or the side on which the Thunder Bay District Health Unit is located.

  • Section of Oliver Road to Close for Sewer and Water Work

    July 25, 2016 - A section of Oliver Road between Ray Boulevard and Rupert Street will be closed on Tuesday, July 26 as new sewer and water services are installed.

    The closure will be in effect from 6 am to approximately 4:30 pm, or until work is complete.

  • Memorial Avenue to Close for Overnight Construction

    July 21, 2016 - A section of Memorial Avenue between Sixth Avenue and the Harbour Expressway will be closed overnight on Monday, July 25 to accommodate various asphalt repairs.

    The closure is scheduled for Monday at 6 pm, weather permitting, and the road is expected to be reopened at 6 am the following day.

  • Significant Reductions in Thunder Bay's Crime Statistics

    July 21, 2016 - The 2015 Police-reported Crime Statistics were released yesterday by Statistics Canada. The Data for Thunder Bay showed reductions in the Crime Severity Index (CSI), overall crime rate, violent crime rate, property crime rate, and youth crime rate-for both violent and property crime.

  • Emerald Ash Borer Awareness and Detection Efforts Intensified

    July 20, 2016 - Since the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) was detected in Thunder Bay in late June, the City and partner organizations have taken additional steps to increase awareness of the insect's arrival and how to slow its spread in the community.

    The first of two public information sessions was hosted yesterday in partnership with the Invasive Species Centre and the Ontario Invasive Plant Council.

  • Murray Raises Pittsburgh Penguins Flag at Sports Hall of Fame

    July 18, 2016 - Local NHL goalie Matt Murray of the 2016 Stanley Cup-Winning Pittsburgh Penguins raised the team's flag outside the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame today.

    At a special ceremony to recognize the achievements of local hockey hero Matt Murray, Mayor Hobbs presented an official City Scroll to Murray with his mother and family in attendance.

  • City Proclaims International Sister Cities Day and Prepares to Welcome Japanese Delegation

    July 15, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay and its Sister City Advisory Committee are proud to be the first international sister city to make a proclamation for International Sister Cities Day on July 15, 2016. 

    Sister Cities International (SCI) is celebrating 60 years of global citizen and civic diplomatic action, and helping support a future where the world's cities and citizens can come together in common ground.

  • Neebing River Trail Reopened to Pedestrian Traffic

    July 15, 2016 - Construction on the covered pedestrian walkway is now complete and pedestrian traffic may resume on the multi-use trail running beneath the Neebing River Bridge on Highway 61, just north of Arthur Street.

    Temporary lighting has also been installed on the trail, which connects Wolverine Crescent in Parkdale to Thornloe Drive in Northwood.
