For residents seeking a reprieve from the winter elements, the Thunder Bay Centennial Botanical Conservatory is tropical paradise.

The Conservatory, typically open 7 days per week will be closed the following days during the holiday season:

• December 23-26
• December 30-January 1

However, those considering a visit are encouraged to not delay as the facility will remain closed after January 1 to allow for the temporary relocation of the plants and the preparation of the site for Phase 2 of the facility.

Southbound traffic on James Street between Arthur and Isabella Streets is currently reduced to one lane to facilitate repairs to a sewer connection in the area.

Shane Muir has been appointed Chief of Superior North Emergency Medical Services for the City and District of Thunder Bay, effective December 19, 2022.

Commander Muir started his career as a paramedic with Superior North EMS in 2007.

In a ceremony today, Mayor Ken Boshcoff and the Regional President of the Métis Nation of Ontario, Wendy Houston, raised the Métis flag at City Hall in honour of Louis Riel Day. The flag’s infinity symbol represents the immortality of the Métis Nation, and the centre of the symbol, on its blue field, indicates the joining of two cultures.

Artwork by six local artists is now helping to beautify twelve intersections across the city. Each artist’s design is displayed in two locations as graphic vinyl wraps on traffic signal boxes located at intersections in high-pedestrian-traffic areas along the City’s image routes.
