As a result of the upcoming Family Day public holiday, the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility (the Landfill) as well as the Front Street and Mountdale Avenue recycling depots will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20.

As a result of the recent warm weather, ice conditions at the City’s outdoor rinks have significantly deteriorated and as such all outdoor rinks (with the exception of the rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing) have been temporarily closed.

Lights will be turned off, change rooms will be closed and residents are asked to stay off the ice surfaces.

The pedestrian trail connecting the boaters’ parking area at the Marina to the Pool 6 site has been closed in order to allow for the construction of the new Thunder Bay Art Gallery, which is now underway.

Pedestrians are still able to access the Pool 6 site by following the roadway.

Nominations are now open for the 46^th Annual Citizens of Exceptional Achievement Awards. The Awards, presented by the City of Thunder Bay, recognize individuals, organizations and groups who volunteer their time to improve and enrich our community.

The Organizing Committee was approved last night to support the planning and delivery of the 2024 Ontario Winter Games. In April 2022, the Government of Ontario awarded the 2024 Ontario Winter Games to Thunder Bay for the first time since 1974.

Today, the City of Thunder Bay Parks and Open Spaces Division launched an Outdoor Rinks Map to make it easier for residents to find outdoor skating rinks in their area.

Along with photos of the rinks, each rink site listing identifies the address, hours of operation, number of rinks on the site, and if the site is supervised - as well as if the site has outside lighting, washrooms, change facilities, outdoor trash bins and adjacent parking.

The Centennial Botanical Conservatory will temporarily reopen on Monday, as there has been a change in the anticipated schedule of the Conservatory renewal project.

A delegation including Mayor Ken Boshcoff, Councillor Kristen Oliver, Chair – Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, Councillor Shelby Chng, Vice Chair – Intergovernmental Affairs Committee and City Manager Norm Gale attended the 2023 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto from January 22 to 24. They brought several community issues and key priorities forward to lobby for action and/or funding.
