  • Road Crews Cleaning Residential Streets as Temperatures Rise

    January 23, 2015 - With temperatures in Thunder Bay expected to remain warm over the next two days, City road crews will take the opportunity to clean up residential streets and remove water from road surfaces.

    Temperatures, as well as forecasted rain, will melt snow and cause water to pool on road surfaces.

  • New Fire Station Opens in Westfort Improving Response

    January 14, 2015 - The second of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue's two new modern Fire Stations was commissioned today. The new Station 6, located on the corner of Fredrica Street and Neebing Avenue, is part of the City's six-project plan to improve facilities, infrastructure and response times for Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the community.

  • Council Ratifies Agreement with the Ontario Nurses' Association

    January 13, 2015 - City Council ratified a two-year collective agreement with the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) which represents 58 full-time, part-time and casual Registered Nurses in the City's three Homes for the Aged.

    The agreement runs from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2016, and provides for general wage increases of 1.

    January 13, 2015 - New traffic signals at two Thunder Bay intersections will be activated the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 14 at approximately 10 am.

  • Holiday Tree Collection Sites Open Boxing Day

    December 23, 2014 - The City will once again recycle natural trees this holiday season, grinding the trees into wood chips which will be added to the compost pile at the City's Solid Waste and Recycling Facility. Compost is given away each spring to beautify residents' lawns and flower gardens.

  • Christmas Wrapping Not Recyclable

    December 19, 2014 - Thunder Bay residents are reminded that the brightly-coloured or foil wrapping paper often used during the Christmas season cannot be recycled because of its high ink content.

    "Recool will not collect blue bags that contain wrapping paper left at the curb, nor will they collect wrapping paper brought to recycling depots," said Jason Sherband, Coordinator Solid Waste Diversion and Recycling, Roads Division.

  • Calendar Parking Restrictions Now in Effect

    December 17, 2014 - Due to weather conditions, city-wide calendar parking restrictions are coming into effect starting today.

    "The implementation of calendar parking restrictions for this winter is based on recent snowfall, as well as the forecast, which is calling for more snow," said James Coady, Manager - Parking Authority.
