    COVID-19: Reduced Access to Victoriaville Centre & McKellar Mall

    Effective immediately, the City’s Realty Services has implemented changes to the operations of Victoriaville Centre and McKellar Mall to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

    Both facilities will now have controlled access.

  • COVID-19: City Cemeteries to Close Until Further Notice

    As per the Ontario Government’s Emergency Declaration to stop the spread of COVID-19, and as per recommendations from the Ontario Association of Cemetery and Funeral Professionals, the Mountain View Cemetery and the St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be closed to the general public starting on Monday, April 20, until further notice.

  • COVID-19: Chippewa Park to Close as FWFN Locks Down

    In response to Fort William First Nation’s decision to close all businesses on Friday, the City will be closing Chippewa Park to support the decision of Chief and Council and assist with limiting the number of people coming in to the First Nation.

    The City of Thunder Bay has worked in partnership with Fort William First Nation in response to their decision to close to ensure that essential services provided by the city will continue to have access.

  • COVID-19: Only Critical Construction Projects to Continue

    Following the announcement from the Ontario government that the list of businesses classified as essential will be reduced further, the City’s Development & Emergency Services Department will only be performing inspections on essential construction projects listed in the Emergency Order below.

    For now, permit applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed so the City is able to facilitate construction once the orders are lifted.

    Ontario Government Program Continues to Move Forward, 15 Grants for Local Entrepreneurs

    The Thunder Bay & District Entrepreneur Centre (EC) is pleased to announce the successful entrepreneurs who will receive a $5,000 grant through the 2020 Starter Company Plus program. The 2020 Starter Company Plus program, originally known as the Starter Company, is in its 6th year of operation and has been helping local entrepreneurs start up, expand, or buy their business.

    Waste Collection Changes for Easter

    Curbside waste collection dates, city wide, will change next week due to Good Friday.

    Garbage and recycling collection will move one day earlier next week, starting on April 6, for all residents.

  • COVID-19: City Confirms Temporary Reduction of Workforce

    Facility closures and program suspensions have resulted in a temporary reduction in the City of Thunder Bay’s workforce by about one-third.

    This includes temporary layoffs of up to 170 employees whose work does not allow them to work from home and a temporary shortage of work for about 620 part-time, casual and temporary employees who have not had work to do since facilities were closed and programs suspended.
