City releases proposed 2026 Municipal Operating Budget
The City of Thunder Bay unveiled the proposed 2026 Municipal Operating Budget today during a presentation at City Hall, outlining a fiscally responsible plan that balances Council’s budget mandate with continued investment in essential services and community priorities.
Including the $23 million Capital Budget that was approved last month, the total proposed 2026 Tax-Supported Budget totals $526.

Important Update on Opening of the City’s Outdoor Skating RinksDue to the weather event yesterday, the city’s outdoor skating rinks will require clearing and flooding today to restore ice surfaces and be able to open, with a focus placed on Parks Supervised locations and the Vickers Park skating loop. Rinks that are opening will be identified on the Outdoor Rink Map on the City’s website and should be ready for use by 6:00 pm.
Save the Date: Winter FunDays 2026 Begin Jan. 4The City of Thunder Bay is excited to announce the return of Winter FunDays! Starting Sunday, January 4, 2026, and running every Sunday until March 15, 2026, this beloved weekly program offers free outdoor and indoor activities for all ages.
