  • City Bike Lanes to Open Friday, May 20

    After delays due to weather and debris build-up from the prolonged winter, City of Thunder Bay’s bike lanes will be opening on Friday, May 20.

    Bike lanes will remain open until November 15, if weather permits.

  • Reduced Load Restrictions Lifted

    The City of Thunder Bay will be removing the seasonal load restrictions on Monday, May 23, at 8 am. The roadway weight restrictions were put in place on March 28, in conjunction with the Ministry of Transportation’s Provincial Reduced Load Regulations.

  • Join Us to Discuss Improvements at Mountdale Boat Launch

    The City of Thunder Bay’s Parks & Open Spaces Section and the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) are hosting a public open house to discuss the proposed improvements at the Mountdale/Neste Boat Launch and surrounding park area and the results of the online public feedback survey on the proposed improvements. The open house is taking place on-site at the Mountdale Boat Launch on Wednesday, May 25, from 12 – 2 pm.

    City of Thunder Bay’s AA Credit Rating Reaffirmed

    S&P Global Ratings has reaffirmed the City of Thunder Bay’s credit rating of AA, with a stable outlook. 

    Over the next two years the City is expected to continue generating positive operating results, maintain a low debt burden and mitigate any lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Section of James Street to Close Starting May 18

    James Street South, between Victoria Avenue and Donald Street, will be closed in both directions for storm sewer work, watermain work, the addition of bike lanes, and road resurfacing. Construction starts tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18.

    PRO Kids Thanks Community for Success of “Power to Play” Campaign

    April 30, marked the conclusion of PRO Kids first “Power to Play” fundraising campaign. With the concept of being “the #1 fan of a child in need”, the campaign was launched in an effort to help Thunder Bay children and youth access sports and recreation activities when their families cannot afford the fees.

    Section of Red River Road to Close Sunday in Both Directions

    May 13, 2022 – Due to a necessary service repair, Red River Road between Rockwood Avenue and Hodge Street, will be completely closed in both directions starting on Sunday, May 15, at 8 am.

    Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the day.

  • City of Thunder Bay Responding to Flooding Situation

    The City of Thunder Bay is currently working to address and monitor city-wide flooding risks, following the Flood Watch Warning issued by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority.

    The City is reminding residents to exercise caution in and around area waterways.

    City Seeks Feedback on By-law Changes

    The City of Thunder Bay is updating its Property Standards and Yard Maintenance By-laws, in a process that will include the creation of two new stand-alone By-laws.

    The changes are in response to requests from the public, and will expand the hours, scope and availability of Licensing and Enforcement Officers.

  • City Archives Seeking Nominations for Women’s History Month Exhibit

    The City Archives is now accepting nominations for their Women’s History Month exhibit. The exhibit was launched in 2013 to celebrate women who have made a contribution to Thunder Bay’s history. New profiles of women are added to the exhibit during Women’s History Month every October.
