COVID-19: Some Outdoor Amenities to Re-Open Soon in City
On May 19, the province officially entered the first stage of its ‘Framework for Reopening the Province’, and announced that it amended Ontario Regulation 104/20 made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act - Closure of Outdoor Recreational Amenities.
These amendments will soon allow the opening of the following amenities:
- Outdoor sports facilities and multi-use fields (including baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and frisbee golf locations, tennis, platform tennis, table tennis.

Virtual Celebration of Public Works WeekResidents are encouraged to recognize and celebrate our public works professionals virtually during National Public Works Week, from May 17-23, 2020.
In response to Provincial orders and physical distancing mandates, the City’s annual Open House in celebration of National Public Works Week has been cancelled.
Section of Balmoral Street to Undergo Road ConstructionA section of Balmoral Street, between Hewitson Street and Alloy Drive, will undergo road reconstruction and storm sewer installation starting on Tuesday, May 19.
A full closure of Balmoral Street, between Hewitson Street and the Harbour Expressway, will be conducted at the start of the construction and will last approximately 10 days.
Building Owners to Maintain Water Safety When Re-OpeningThe COVID-19 Pandemic has prolonged closures or reduced occupancy of many buildings in Thunder Bay. While the City is responsible to provide clean, safe drinking water to its customers, it is the responsibility of each building owner to ensure it maintains the safety of the water within their building.
Fire Ban Lifted, Outdoor Burning Permits Re-InstatedThunder Bay Fire Rescue has lifted the City wide fire ban previously in place, and all valid outdoor burning permits have been reinstated.
The fire ban being lifted is consistent with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests lifting the Restricted Fire Zone declaration.
One Extra Item of Garbage Allowed Next WeekThe City will allow residents to put out a third item garbage with no tag, on the first collection date after the Victoria Day holiday.
Residents are reminded to still try and reduce waste.

Leaf & Yard Waste Collection Takes Place Between May 19-29The City of Thunder Bay’s spring curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place from May 19 – 29, on resident’s regular recycling days.
Homeowners must use Kraft (paper bags) for leaf and yard waste.
