Power outage affects services at Victoriaville Civic CentreThis advisory has been updated with new information.
Please be advised that City of Thunder Bay service counters in the Victoriaville Civic Centre will be closed on Tuesday due to a power outage.
New Chief of Fire Rescue AppointedFollowing a rigorous and competitive selection process that drew interest from many highly qualified candidates across the country, the City is pleased to announce the appointment of David Paxton as the new Chief of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, effective immediately.
Chief Paxton has been a dedicated member of Fire Rescue since 1998, starting his career as a 1st Class Professional Firefighter and ascending to the role of Deputy Fire Chief in 2012.
Statement from City Manager on Transit IncidentAt approximately 6am today an incident occurred at the City Hall bus terminal that involved a physical altercation between a City Transit Operator and a member of the public.
The incident was reported to Thunder Bay Police Service.
Muskeg Express temporarily out of serviceThe Muskeg Express train ride at Centennial Park will be out of service until further notice due to a front wheel derailment.
The popular attraction had undergone inspection and numerous successful test runs last fall as well as this spring to prepare for opening in June.
Grants now available through Housing Accelerator FundThe City of Thunder Bay was approved for up to $20.7 million dollars in federal funding from the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) in February 2024 to support development of over 600 new housing units over the next three years, to reach a total of 1,691 new permitted homes by February 2027.
2024 road work is underwayThe City of Thunder Bay is investing $42 million in 2024 to fund important infrastructure work including road rehabilitation, sidewalk replacement, sewer and watermain repairs and replacements, and bridge and culvert renewal.
A number of projects have already begun, and many more will be undertaken throughout the summer construction season.
Plan to attend Kite Festival at Chippewa Park this SundayThe City of Thunder Bay’s Recreation & Culture Division is excited to announce that the 41st Annual Kite Festival, presented by Ontario Power Generation, will return to Chippewa Park this Sunday, June 9 from 11am to 3pm.
Chippewa Park's carnival rides will be operational and food vendors will be on site.
City Celebrates Crossing Guard Appreciation WeekThe City of Thunder Bay is encouraging the community to show their appreciation for their neighbourhood crossing guards duringCrossing Guard Appreciation Week, which runs June 3 to 7.
"The Crossing Guard program is a vital part of our community," said Michelle Riemer, Field Supervisor – Crossing Guards.
Waddington Park undergoing renewal workSome amenities will be closed starting Monday, June 3 at Waddington Park in Current River as improvements are carried out on site.
During this time, the park will be open and sports fields will not be affected.
