Kite Festival returns to Chippewa Park this Sunday
Get ready to soar at the City of Thunder Bay’s Kite Festival, presented by Ontario Power Generation, a family-friendly celebration filled with colourful kites, outdoor fun, and imagination this Sunday, June 8, from 11am to 3pm at Chippewa Park.
This free-to-attend event invites everyone to enjoy a day of fresh air and fun.
Draft Growth Community Improvement Plan Now Available for Public InputThe City of Thunder Bay’s draft Growth Community Improvement Plan has been released for review, with comments being accepted until June 11.
The Growth CIP is a bold new strategy designed to position Thunder Bay as a competitive, investment-ready city by encouraging industrial and commercial development across the community.
Celebrate International Trails Day at the WaterfrontThe City of Thunder Bay, together with community partners, invites residents to take part in the Celebrate International Trails Day: Build the Waterfront Trail event on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Prince Arthur’s Landing.This free public event is being held in celebration of International Trails Day, and Thunder Bay is honoured to be selected as one of only 13 sites across Canada recognized by the Trans Canada Trail for this national celebration.
Final Spring Leaf & Yard Waste Curbside Collection comingThe second and final Spring Leaf & Yard waste curbside collection will take place between June 10 and June 20, on residents’ regular recycling day.
“Having two collections in the spring and two again in the fall allows the City to increase the amount of leaf and yard waste collected and diverted from the landfill,” said Jason Sherband, Manager of Solid Waste & Recycling Services.City Breaks Ground on the Reimagine Victoriaville ProjectToday, the City of Thunder Bay officially takes a major step in the transformation of downtown Fort William with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Reimagine Victoriaville project. This significant initiative marks the beginning of the removal of the Victoriaville Centre and the revitalization of Victoria and Syndicate Avenues into a modern, accessible, and vibrant public space.
Section of Cumberland Street Closed for Roundabout Construction and Infrastructure UpgradesThe City of Thunder Bay is advising the public that Cumberland Street, from McVicar Street to Howe Street, is fully closed starting today for major infrastructure work, including the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Cumberland Street and Water Street.
The closure will remain in effect until the fall to allow for the installation of new sewer and water infrastructure, along with full road and sidewalk reconstruction throughout the area.Public Works Week Comes to a Close After Successful Community EventsThe City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that more than 1,100 people attended this year’s Public Works Open House at Mountdale Yard, marking a tremendous turnout and celebrating a successful conclusion to National Public Works Week 2025.
Residents of all ages came out to enjoy the family-friendly event, which featured interactive displays, City vehicles, games, and more.
Construction Project Begins Near Cornwall AvenueThe City of Thunder Bay is advising the public that Cornwall Avenue, between Banning Street and Crown Street, will be limited to local traffic only as infrastructure work is carried out in the adjacent back lane.
The work is expected to take approximately six weeks and includes:
- Installation of new catch basin leads
- Watermain looping and tie-in to the existing main on Cornwall Avenue
- Construction of new retaining walls
All construction activity will take place in the back lane, which will be fully.
